Tottenham Hotspur announced today that they will be heading to the United States of America once again for their preseason exhibition tour. Specific sites, dates and opponents to follow, but club Chairman Daniel Levy did have this to say:
“This summer’s tour will be the sixth time in nine years that we have toured the US and we are all excited to be returning again later this year. Our following in North America has grown considerably during this time with the number of Official Supporters Clubs alone more than quadrupling.”
“We are grateful to have such strong support in the US and we are fully aware of the sacrifices they make to watch us play at any hour of the day. We look forward to showing them our appreciation when we visit this summer.”
Spurs came here to Chicago in 2014, defeating the Chicago Fire 2-0 at Toyota Park in an international friendly. The beat Toronto FC and drew with the Seattle Sounders on that trip to the USA. Tottenham played in New York, Orlando and Nashville last summer as they faced AS Roma, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City as part of the International Champions Cup “tournament.”
Spurs have announced a return to the ICC competition again this summer. Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and both Manchester clubs have already confirmed they play preseason matches in the United States this summer.
The United schedule is starting to take shape, with some games already announced. However, the blockbuster match, which has been reported but not yet confirmed, is United versus Liverpool at The Big House in Ann Arbor. United and Real Madrid broke the USA record for soccer attendance in 2014 at Michigan Stadium.

That was more than any Olympic or World Cup match even!
Real Madrid met Chelsea in the same venue two years and the result was the second highest ever soccer attendance in American history, and the highest attendance in Chelsea history.
