Juventus CEO Calls £89.3m Paul Pogba Sale His Best Achievement

#Pogback, in all its £89.3 million glory, was arguably the greatest achievement in the career of super agent Mino Raiola. He orchestrated a deal that saw Manchester United buy his client, midfielder Paul Pogba, back from Juventus for a world breaking transfer fee in the summer of 2016.

Raiola then went out and literally bought a Miami mansion that once belonged to Al Capone.

For Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta, it was his greatest personal achievement, or at least that what’s he quoted as saying in an interview with Il Giornale. Yes, it definitely sounds like a blatant dig at United, and their Executive Vice President Ed Woodward.

The Juventus boss was speaking about the deal he executed in bringing Gonzalo Higuain over from Napoli last summer. Marotta may have not have been able to splash that kind of cash in such a manner (or at least not as easily) if not for having prior pulled off the Pogba deal.

Transcript via Calciomercato:

“You can not do such a deal every year,” Marotta said.

“Higuain had created an opportunity to leave Naples at an opportune moment in which we decided to make that investment. But you can not think of doing it every year. That transfer was closed before Paul’s move to United was finalized, which was predictable and of course facilitated the Pipita deal.”

The Juventus chief was then asked about the best deals that he has ever done. Marotta responded:

“Casiraghi signing for Juventus was the sign of progress. Signing Cassano from Real was special: it was pure emotion because it was about recovering a talent. The Pogba deal to Manchester United: the biggest personal achievement. “
