Striker Wayne Rooney, who’s had a very very rough stretch, on both the club and the country level, was snapped at a wedding while on duty with England looking rather inebriated. Actually, he was seemingly totally hammered.

He was described as “too drunk to stand.”

Since these photos came out, we’ve heard from Rooney’s publicist, the Football Association, and even Rooney himself, who issued this statement of apology. We also heard from Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho on this topic.

Now Rooney has opined on the media coverage of his drunken exploits, and, as you might have guessed, he’s not very happy with it. The Team Captain for both Manchester United and the England National Team called the publication and subsequent analysis of it “disgraceful.”

“It feels as if the media are trying to write my obituary and I won’t let that happen,” Wayne Rooney is quoted in BBC News.

“What’s been going on is disgraceful. I love playing for my country and I am proud of my achievements to date – but I have not finished yet.”

Rooney said his treatment showed “a lack of respect”.
