Manchester United vs Paris St. Germain at Soldier Field now sold out

Obviously, there were some serious issues with ticket sales for the second game of the 2015 #MUTour. Manchester United versus Major League Soccer side the San Jose Earthquakes was moved from the University of California’s Memorial Stadium (capacity 60,000) to the Earthquakes brand new facility (capacity 18,000).

The official reason given was “logistics and travel concerns” but we already dissected why those are obviously flimsy excuses. We can all see through the corporate speak, and discern the real reason. Especially given the desperate measures the Earthquakes resorted to in order to ensure a sell out.

But hey that’s not a concern here in Chicago! The exhibition friendly between Manchester United and PSG (which has also now become the de facto Angel Di Maria Cup) has now reached sellout status. It took a long time to get there, but hey, better late than never.

“We are excited to announce yet another sellout,” said a prepared statement attributed to Charlie Stillitano, Chairman of Relevent Sports, the firm that’s putting this big show on.

“Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are world class organizations. Not often do you have the opportunity to see these two teams face off outside of UEFA Champions League play and we are happy to provide the great Chicago sports town the experience of world class competition.”

Kickoff is 8 pm local time, but it won’t air on television until 10:30 for some bizarre reason. Here’s the TV info.

“It’s no coincidence that an iconic venue hosting world-class teams like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain is sold out,” said a statement attributed to Michael P. Kelly, Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO.

“Prestigious events like International Champions Cup matches help fund parks and programs across Chicago, while exposing thousands of visitors to our great city.”
