Former Chelsea, Liverpool Striker Fernando Torres Linked to Chicago Fire

fernando torres

There has been speculation for some time that Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres could be on his way to the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. Earlier this month, the MLS’ official website published a story on the Fire being interested in signing Torres, as they own his internal league rights, if the former Chelsea and Liverpool man decided he wanted to cross the pond this summer.

Fernando Torres himself, 34, has confirmed his plans to leave Atletico, and his agent says that many international options (China, USA, the Middle East) are all on the table. Torres broke the Liverpool transfer fee mark when he joined in 2007, as well as the Chelsea record when he switched to Stamford Bridge in 2011. That transfer also set the record for the most expensive Spanish player of all time.

Oxlade-Chamberlain Suffers Knee Ligament Damage; Ruled Out for World Cup

Liverpool and England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had a scary moment last week in Liverpool’s 5-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma. The Ox was involved in a challenge with Roma’s Aleksandar Kolarov, and the end result saw the Englishman undergo a very lengthy treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said the former Arsenal man has a “really bad injury” that “doesn’t look good.” It is indeed really bad- a knee ligament injury that will not only end his season with Liverpool, but also keep him out of the World Cup in Russia this June. If the England national team was part of your FIFA World Cup betting plans, then you might want to take heed of this development. Three Lions now have an absence in midfield to account and adjust for.

Liverpool vs AS Roma Injury Report: Oxlade-Chamberlain, Strootman, Perotti

In the lead-up to Wednesday night’s away leg of their UEFA Champions League tie with AS Roma, Liverpool FC defender Joe Gomez says his team will continue being positive in attack. He told the media that his side will embody the belief that the best defense is a strong offense.

Liverpool head into this match up 5-2 from the first leg, and overall very healthy. The only fresh injury concern is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who got hurt and had to be stretchered off during the Anfield leg. He suffered ligament damage and he’s unfortunately out for the season, and longer, as he will even miss out on playing for England in the World Cup.
