Iowa Hawkeyes fan Samantha Goudie: BAC level seems inaccurate?

University of Iowa student Samantha Goudie made national news by going to jail for getting drunk and trying to get on the field at Kinnick Stadium Saturday during the Iowa Hawkeyes loss to Northern Illinois.

The reason she’s an internet sensation though is because she scored a .341 BAC on the breathalyzer test. And she’s stayed an internet sensation because 1.) a lot of people think this is something that should be celebrated 2.) Samantha Goudie live tweeted her trip to jail and is using her Twitter account to draw as much attention to herself as possible.

Something isn’t right here regarding her .341 reading. Given the chart below, someone at her reading would barely be conscious; and possibly comatose.

Did you see the range Samantha Goudie fell into? If the reading was correct, she was in the danger zone for death from alcohol poisoning. And very likely to be unconscious.

Still think Samantha Goudie is someone to be celebrated? And revered? Still think she’s cool?

If she was able to walk/run/stand and attempt to get onto the field, maybe the reading was incorrect? It doesn’t make sense. Someone at .341 would be exhibiting much more severe issues.

Right now if I’m the University of Iowa, I’m doing all I can to distance the school from Samantha Goudie and doing whatever I can to get her to go quiet on social media. Her negative PR for the school is off-the-charts.
