Italian Right-Back Matteo Darmian got off to a stellar start when Manchester United acquired him in the summer of 2015, but unfortunately, it didn’t last. Then Manager Louis van Gaal inserted him into the starting line-up and as his first season as Old Trafford wore on, his performance declined.
His Red Devils career peaked early, with things continuing to head downhill during his second season. New Manager Jose Mourinho preferred Antonio Valencia on the right side, and then shifted Darmian over to left side.
His playing time continued to decrease however, as he then battled Daley Blind and Luke Shaw for playing time at the Left Back position. Don’t be surprised if either Shaw or Darmian moves on from United this summer, although it’s doubtful that Mourinho would sell both away.
In the case of Matteo Darmian, there are reportedly two potential suitors, both in his native country of Italy. According to a number of reports from Italy, AS Roma are keen, and likely to challenge Inter Milan for the opportunity to acquire him. Darmian has been linked to Inter for quite some time, and with United coveting Ivan Perisic, maybe the two clubs and work out some kind of swap plus cash deal?
Word is there is a considerable gap between the price Inter are asking and the amount United are willing to pay.
It looks like it’s going to be a very interesting summer transfer window for both clubs.
