David Moyes claims Sir Alex Ferguson would have struggled with this team

David Moyes took an interesting route in dealing with the intense fire he is currently under. He claimed that his predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson, the most successful Manager in English football history, would have struggled with this Manchester United team.

Even though, they are largely the same team they were last season, comprised of mostly the same players, Moyes believes that even Fergie would have trouble winning with these guys.

As you obviously know, Sir Alex Ferguson hand-picked Moyes as his successor. Even though much better Managers such as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola were available. So I guess Moyes is kind of throwing Fergie under the bus here; blaming him for leaving the cupboard bare.

“People are aware there is a squad that is a bit more ageing, so I think it would have been a tough season for whoever was in charge of Manchester United this year,” Moyes is quoted as saying by the Mail.

“And I actually think if Sir Alex was here this year it would be difficult for Sir Alex as well and I’m sure he would be aware of it.

“It could have been the case no matter what this season, but it has been so un-Man United, which is why we have to look to continue a policy of building, improving, getting better and that’s what we’ll try and do.”

So that one year of aging has made all the difference? Interesting “logic” there. Regardless, United are all but guaranteed of finishing with their worst record in the Premier League era. They’re also a lock to finish with the worst record for a defending champion since 1995. Sir Alex Ferguson won the league by 11 points with this team last year.
