Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has made a lot of headlines for a lot of different reasons lately. He scored the second goal in United’s 2-0 win over Watford Saturday, but after the match Red Devils Manager Jose Mourinho revealed that Martial still lacks for confidence.
Last week, Martial said don’t read what the newspapers write about him, as it’s not true.
More Martial headlines came the next day, as a former United and France defender urged the French youngster to remain patient, and not to “do a Pogba” and leave the club too early.
Speaking of Pogba, United takes on Saint-Etienne in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 on Thursday night. This match-up has of course the built-in obvious “narrative” appeal. It’s a match-up of brother versus brother, Paul Pogba of Manchester United versus Florentin Pogba of Saint-Etienne.
It’s just perfect for anyone who might have a vested interest in this tournament getting more appeal and hence more profitability.
Thus, what a wonderful instance of serendipity that the totally blind, randomized draw yielded this pairing.
Yes, indeed just amazing how good fortune smiled upon the process that certainly in no way was manipulated at all by the human beings determining the match-ups…well that’s enough sarcasm for today…And here’s what Anthony Martial had to say about the upcoming Pogba Cup via the Manchester Evening News:
“They are well known for being big jokers and mickey-takers but, once they are on the field, it will be like two warriors who are going all out to win the game,” said Martial.
“If one beats the other, he’ll immediately start giving out loads of stick so they’ll be desperate to do all they can to win.”
As the comments of Anthony Martial indicate, the Pogba Cup is going to be on and popping Thursday night.
