Former Marquette and Hinsdale Central star Brian Wardle is currently the coach at University Wisconsin-Green Bay. There are allegations that he mistreated his college basketball players. No one’s calling him Mike Rice from Rutgers yet; but there are both Brian Wardle supporters and accusers out there.
So this Brian Wardle story is only just developing. From the Green Bay Press-Gazette:
Ryan Bross, the former University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball player whose allegations led to an investigation of coach Brian Wardle, went public with his accusations Monday.
In an interview with Press-Gazette Media, Bross shared the details of his complaint, which focused on allegations of vulgar, demeaning language Wardle used against the walk-on freshman, and an incident in which the coach made an ill Bross continue a workout until he couldn’t control his bowels and then ridiculed him for it.
Bross’ mother, Brooke, outlined these complaints in a letter she submitted to UWGB Chancellor Thomas Harden on April 9. Harden announced two days later that the school would use an independent investigator to look into these claims.
Wardle went 18-16 this past season, good for third in the Horizon League, the best finish during the three year Wardle era. When hired, Wardle became the youngest head coach in college basketball.
Wardle played for Marquette from 1997–2001, ending his career as the third-leading scorer in school history.
