jurgen klopp

It may not even be Christmas yet, but many pundits have already declared Manchester City the 2017-18 Premier League champions. While admitting that it is extremely unlikely anybody will catch up to City (United manager Jose Mourinho begs to differ) in the league title race, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his side still has a lot to play for this season.

The Reds are currently in fourth place, on pace to earn the last Champions League qualification slot.

jurgen klopp

Jurgen Klopp has had his ups and downs this season, but he’s really got his Liverpool side showing some really fine form on the road right now. With a dominating 4-0 win at A.F.C. Bournemouth today, the Reds are now undefeated in their last 12 across all competitions, with four consecutive Premier League away wins.

In this four wins they have achieved a 16-2 goal differential. A resounding statement, like the one they made at Dean Court, was certainly needed today as the Reds also suffered a goalless draw at home to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.

jurgen klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that he had to remove his leading scorer, Egyptian winger Mo Salah, from the Merseyside Derby due to an injury scare. Klopp came under much scrutiny for removing his player of the year candidate, and only goalscorer in the 1-1 draw, in the 67′.

The German had to make this switch in order to prevent a hamstring issue from degenerating into a serious injury.

Jurgen Klopp Does Not Regret Ripping Reporter, Officiating

jurgen klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp does not have angry regrets at all about what he had to say after his side drew with Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday. Klopp took aim at both the officiating and the Sky Sports reporter interviewing him, Patrick Davison, telling the media personality that he only wanted “to talk to people who have a little bit of an understanding of football.”

Klopp then immediately apologized, right in the midst of the interview, as he clearly realized that he had just made a major mistake.

Chances for the British clubs to advance even further in Europe are quite high, as a few of them drew some favorable match-ups on Monday.

The Guardian did a power rankings for the knockout round clubs, and England’s representation came in very favorable on their list.

Jurgen Klopp Rips Officiating, Reporter After Merseyside Derby Draw

jurgen klopp

It’s quite possible that this tirade from Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp could earn him a fine and/or public apology. Liverpool owned a 79% possession and 22-3 shot advantage over Everton, but managed only a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside Derby. What a shame, as it wasted an absolutely brilliant and beautiful goal from winger Mohamed Salah, a scoring strike that trended on social media.

However, a very controversial challenge from the extremely embattled Dejan Lovren gave the Toffees a penalty, which Wayne Rooney converted to equalize for the visitors.

Manchester United #5 in Champions League Power Rankings

When someone composes a UEFA Champions League power rankings they are also essentially creating a world power rankings. If you can beat everybody in Europe, then you can beat anybody on Earth. The Guardian concocted a hierarchy of the 16 teams who advanced to the knockout round, and Manchester United came in fifth.

It sounds about right, and it’s hard to argue against that. It’s also difficult to take issue with where United’s opponents this weekend in the Manchester Derby placed- #1.

Philippe Coutinho Refuses to Rule Out January Move Away From Liverpool

philippe coutinho

It won’t be long before the January transfer window is open, and when it does, it appears that Philippe Coutinho potentially going to Barcelona will again be the dominant narrative. The storyline of the Liverpool attacking midfielder possibly moving to Barca dominated the summer transfer window as Liverpool rejected three big money bids from the Catalan club.

Coutinho was left extremely frustrated by the failure of his transfer to go through, and thus had to slowly ease his way into this season, but once he did the Brazilian has been crushing it.
