Troy Williams is the second guy on the current Indiana Hoosiers roster who could be a NBA Lottery pick. Not this year of course, but next. Noah Vonleh will probably be a top ten pick this June. Williams has been improving his game a lot, cutting down on turnovers which is key. He’s playing really well without the ball, and he’s got a tremendous amount of athleticism.
“He’s starting to understand that it’s okay to slow down, but then when there’s a chance to speed up, go get that one,” IU Coach Tom Crean said of Troy Williams.
“Plays fast but not in a hurry, the old John Wooden: ‘be quick, but don’t hurry,’ Crean said sounding like the tagline from a motivational cat poster.
Troy Williams is a high wire guy with a lot of energy, who’s working on finishing, and continuing to work on this three point shot. Those are things he needs to do, continue being better in the corners and in spacing. He was the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Virginia, so you know there’s a ton of upside for Williams.
And he’s gotten the cliche “on the job training” this season as Crean has started him in every single game this year.
Here’s where we have Troy Williams slotted in the 2015 NBA Mock Draft (full mock here)
14. Troy Williams, SF, Indiana, 6-7, Fr.
Troy Williams is a versatile, length, crazy athletic wing and if he can develop a consistent jump shot, definitely has lottery potential.
