When it comes to Illinois’ highly heralded recruiting class of 2010, everyone talks about Jereme Richmond first, and Crandall Head second. And for good reason, but don’t forget about Illini recruit Meyers Leonard (best known for this sick dunk). Leonard will be a part of a attending All-Star game this weekend
Champaign, Ill.-University of Illinois signee Meyers Leonard is in California this weekend, attending the second annual High School Academic All-American Classic (HSAAAC). The event will be held Saturday night on the campus of Azusa Pacific University. Leonard will not play in the game due to a foot injury.
Leonard earned first-team All-State honors as a senior, averaging 18.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.4 blocks and 3.8 assists while leading Robinson High School to the IHSA Class 2A Championship.
The HSAAAC features the finest basketball players in the country who have excelled in the classroom and have contributed to their communities. In addition to the game, this year’s events include a formal banquet, tour of Los Angeles, free camp for Special Olympics, Slam Dunk/3-Point Competition and parent workshop.
Student-athletes are selected based on the following criteria: grade-point average, SAT/ACT scores, strength of high school curriculum, college selection, community service involvement, extra curricular activities and basketball ability. Players chosen for the game have had to maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average. This year’s participants have an average grade-point average of 3.6.
