Granted this is not a political website, or a current affairs site, but it is an official Google News site, and this is THE BIGGEST media story since Nov 2nd 2008. And much like that fateful night, when the pride of our hometown (Chicagoan Barack Obama) became the first African-American  elected President of the United States of America, tonight we all have a feeling of “Yes we can” manifest itself as “yes we did!”

By Paul M. Banks

From the paper of record, the New York Times:

Osama bin Laden has been killed, two United States officials said. President Obama was expected to make an announcement on Sunday night, almost ten years after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

One of the officials said that American forces, acting on intelligence, launched a “targeted assault” that killed Mr. Bin Laden, whose ability to elude capture for so long deeply frustrated the Bush administration.

It took ten years, and two wars but we finally got the bastard. If you’re feeling a sense of healthy jingoism tonight– it’s totally understandable! Go nuts!

If you want to break out into the usually meathead sounding U-S-A!! U-S-A!!! chant- I’m with you! Do it up

I TOLD YOU in ’08 Obama would eventually get things done! That there would be change we could all believe in. That some of his campaign promises would indeed be fulfilled. And this historic day, May Day actually (a day known all around the world everywhere but the U.S. as a day to celebrate workers rights) is a huge one for the party of the working man. The party that operates the political machine that runs America.

Will all these scenes of Americans celebrating his death in the streets win us any friends in the Middle East? Absolutely not. But that doesn’t mean we still shouldn’t feel good. This country needs it. America has a ton of problems right now, and this exciting victory gives us an injection of vitality and life that we can all use.

And it probably made Obama’s 2012 re-election chances go up from “good” to “near certain.” (It also helps Obama immensely that the GOP can’t find any candidates that aren’t a.) reality television “stars” or b.) failures in basic science and history c.) both

So, let me hear ya Chicago! Especially you, Hyde Park!
