The Milwaukee Bucks are dead last in the Eastern Conference with a record of 2-11 right now. Only the 2-14 Utah Jazz are worse in the NBA. That’s not news. The Milwaukee Bucks have been really bad at basketball for a really long time. What is news is what a group of Milwaukee Bucks fans decided to do about how terrible the team is.
A fan group called “Save Our Bucks” have decided put up a billboard in downtown Milwaukee with the words “Winning Takes Balls.” Because of course, the save the Milwaukee Bucks movement requires a low-brow pun relating to testicles. Otherwise it won’t work. The Milwaukee Bucks fan billboard, which you can see below, is a call to action to tank the season, in the hopes of acquiring as many ping pong balls as possible for the 2014 NBA Draft.
The draft figures to be one of the richest classes in recent memory.
And of course, this post won’t get its maximum page views unless I get low brow and throw in some unrelated and completely unnecessary Milwaukee Bucks dancers pictures.
Save our Bucks is looking to raise $3-4,000. The billboard will be up in December for a period of three weeks. And of course, raise awareness of the Milwaukee Bucks to continue sucking at their jobs; for the greater good of getting one of the top four picks in the NBA draft, which will all be blue chip freshmen: Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon.
Of course, now the Milwaukee Bucks neighbor to the south, the Chicago Bulls, should engage in the exact same gamesmanship as they’ve lost Derrick Rose for the season, and have no chance.
Here’s an excerpt of their mission statement, via the Indiegogo project page:
We love the franchise and want to help secure the Bucks long-term future in the city. They have been an important part of Wisconsin for over 40 years…Unfortunately, over the past decade, the product on the court has been uninspiring and the result has been public apathy as to the future of the team.
In order for the Bucks to regain their footing with the fans and the community, they need to drastically improve the product on the court. However, for the Bucks to do this, they need to change their approach. One way to help change this approach is if the fan base can let the organization know that they will support a full rebuilding of the team under a new front office direction. This means being willing to part with high-priced journeymen veteran players and focus on building around young talent acquired with high draft picks. The talent rich 2014 NBA draft is the place to start.
