VIDEO: Chris Kluwe calls out Vikings on MSNBC

Minnesota-Vikings-mike-zimmer

Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is one of the most outspoken players in the history of the NFL. The avid marriage equality and gay rights advocate has as much a social conscience as anyone to ever play the game. From gun control to civil rights, Kluwe is somebody who almost always has something meaningful to say.

Joe Webb starting at QB for Vikings, Packers fans rejoicing

samantha-ponder

Green Bay Packers fans are rejoicing today, because Vikings starting QB Christian Ponder, better known as the husband of ESPN reporter Samantha Steele, well it’s Samantha Ponder now, is unavailable. Multiple sources say Joe Webb will start at quarterback. Yikes for Minnesota Vikings fans.

Percy Harvin wants Vikings to trade him

percy_harvin

The Minnesota Vikings aren’t exactly the best NFL when it comes to depth at wide receiver. And further depleting that depth isn’t the best way to help a young quarterback in Christian Ponder develop further. But nonetheless Percy Harvin wants out of the twin cities.

The Associated Press‘ Jon Krawczynski appears to have first reported this in a tweet.

Minnesota Vikings: mocking their first two 2012 NFL Draft picks

vikings-fans

The Minnesota Vikings are pretty much in rebuilding mode, and what better day to rebuild for the future than NFL Draft day 2012? Let’s look at who they might take.

Who do Minnesota Vikings Draft at #3 Overall?

vikings

Everyone knows Andrew Luck is going first overall to the Indianapolis Colts. When his name is called on draft day it will be as big a surprise as the day former Menudo member and late ’90s pop star Ricky Martin officially came out of the closet.

The real draft begins at number two. And gets more interesting at number three and so on.

What will the Vikings do? With Christian Ponder, last year’s #1 pick under center, I can’t see them going quarterback. Yes, he has a lot to learn, and a long way to go to reach that ceiling, but he’s the future. Also, Matt Barkley decided to stay in school, and I believe if you can’t get Luck or Barkley, than the Vikes might as well stay with the girl they brought to the dance. Robert Griffin III and Landry Jones are fine prospects, but I don’t think they’ll punt on Ponder for those guys.

Vikings Begin New Era: Rookie QB Christian Ponder to Start Sunday

With the Chicago Bears destroying the Minnesota Vikings tonight 39-10, the Vikes O got some quality garbage time, and you know what that means- second stringer playing time.

Donovonn McNabb got pulled in favor of rookie quarterback Christian Ponder, who made his NFL debut in the second half of Sunday night’s loss.

Ponder, the 12th overall pick out of Florida State, came in early in the fourth quarter and finished 12-18 for 99 yards.

(update: multiple sources report that Ponder will officially start Sunday vs. the Green Bay Packers. [Read more…]

Chicago Bears Fans, Chill out, Vikings Blowout is Not Season Saving

devin_hester

The Chicago Bears have solidified their stranglehold on third place in the NFC North division. They won a big, Sunday night prime time game versus their division rival Minnesota Vikings, in a very dominating fashion.

That’s the good news.

The bad news- it came at the expense of the Vikings, a front-runner in the “Suck for Luck” derby. (Even though they just drafted a QB last April, maybe “Suck for Matt Kalil?”)

Vikings and Chiefs: Battle for the Toilet Bowl

Fans in Kansas City and Minneapolis will have to start attending the games with paper bags over their heads. Both clubs have been examples of extreme futility so far this fall. The two clubs are headed nowhere fast because throughout the history of the NFL, only three percent of teams that have started in this manner (0-3) have reached the playoffs.

How Can the Minnesota Vikings Actually Win a Game?

The teams that met from the NFC North on Sunday in Minneapolis seem to be heading in vastly different directions. The Lions are a youthful and exuberant bunch, while the Vikings are a beaten down lackadaisical squad. I have some suggestions for Leslie Frazier on how Minnesota can join their divisional foes in the win column.

NFC North: Best Division in the NFL? Yeah Probably

Our good friends (and web traffic ranking twins) over at Real Clear Sports have a wonderful feature where they average all the major power rankings for the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB each week. They accumulate and average the rankings from 8 major media power rankings and the findings show that the Upper Midwest is ruling football right now.

Yes, it’s just week one, and power rankings are extremely subjective in nature- but the NFC North had the most impressive showing in the rankings thus far. Remember the NFL has no BcS.

The only other division that came even close was the AFC East.

Lackluster Performance by McNabb, Minnesota Vikings Overall

The Minnesota Vikings received some very good news at the start of the game against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Kicker Nate Kaeding was being carted to the locker room for complications that ensued from an attempted tackle. He is out for the year with a possible torn ACL. That wasn’t enough for Minnesota to capitalize and steal a victory in Southern California.

The Vikings led by ten points at the half and things were looking up for the squad. Norv Turner has had notoriously slow starts in San Diego and this seemed to be more of the same. The game then was turned upside down as the Chargers scored seventeen unanswered points to finish the contest. The Vikings accrued twice as many yards in penalties than they did through the air.

Vikings Training Camp Update: Day 2; McKinnie Released, and Peterson and Ponder Updates

The Minnesota Vikings camp is in full swing, and their first preseason game looms less than two weeks away.

Due to the new CBA, newly acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb has yet to have his first practice as a Minnesota Viking.

Regardless of McNabb’s absence on the field, there has been plenty of happenings at the Minnesota State-Mankato campus in the first two days of Vikings’ training camp. [Read more…]
