Northwestern Defense “Brings It” in Victory Over Vanderbilt

Earlier this week, Pat Fitzgerald told the Vanderbilt passing offense to “bring it.” But it was his own defense, not the Commodores’ offense, that got the memo Saturday night.

The same Northwestern defense that made Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib the nation’s leading passer last week stymied Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers for 86 second half passing yards — and the entire Commodores offense to just three second-half points — en route to a 23-13 win.

#55 Vanderbilt Commodores: College Football 77 in 77

Last year’s weakest link of Vanderbilt football was the passing game, as they ranked 97th in the nation in that department. That stat is a bit misleading though, as the air attack, and the offense itself took a major turn for the better when Jordan Rodgers replaced Larry Smith in mid-season.

Rodgers is of course, the younger brother of Green Bay Packers signal caller and NFL and Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers. So that’s what the Vanderbilt Commodores are known for now. Under Smith they averaged 20.4 ppg and 244.4 yards. With Rodgers, those numbers went up to 31.6 and 413.

Aaron Rodgers’ Brother Jordan: Starting QB at Vanderbilt

Aaron Rodgers is on his way to having a NFL MVP type season. He’s put up incredible, video game like numbers as his Green Bay Packers are undefeated; and playing with an abandon that makes us believe the Pack could go 16-0. As long as the offense carries the load for the defense, like earlier today in the win over the San Diego Chargers.

His little brother Jordan Rodgers? His season isn’t going quite as well. However, he is a SEC starting signal caller, as he leads the Vanderbilt Commodores.
