At a news conference held on Monday by the Texas A&M Board of Regents, board member Jim Schwertner said he would like to see the name Kyle Field (current name of the Texas A&M football stadium) revised in order to pay homage to Johnny Manziel.

(UPDATE: Browns claim Manziel won’t start right away)

Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill’s model wife: Lauren Ufer photos

Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill is a fringe NFL draft prospect for this year’s class. He has the measurables, but the woeful underachievement of his A&M Aggies on the field has hurt his draft stock immensely.

Playing terrible and losing to arch-rival Texas Thanksgiving night on national television, in what maybe the last meeting between the two teams for awhile, didn’t help.

However, he has a lot going for him off the field. Like his fiance Lauren Ufer, a budding model.

#22 Texas A&M: College Football 77 in 77

texas a&m

When Texas A&M made the choice to SECede from the Big 12 did they know what they were truly getting themselves into? This year’s schedule features every national champion from 2006 to present. Have fun with that. The Aggies finished fourth in the Big 12 in passing last year but 11th overall, shows you how passing nuts their old league was versus the new league.

Texas A&M: Opponent for Northwestern in Houston Bowl

texas a&m

Northwestern director of athletics Jim Phillips has done it again. He’s worked his magic to get his Wildcats up the bowl ladder, as NU landed in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston vs. Texas A&M.

Bowl executive director Heather Houston (really, that’s her name? What an awesome coincidence that bowl based in Houston is run by someone with that name) announced Sunday the bowl match-up in Texas on New Year’s Eve (Saturday, Dec. 31) at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

Texas A&M Fires Coach Mike Sherman; Not SEC Material?

texas a&m

As Texas A&M packs up their stuff and gets ready to move from the Big 12 to the SEC, there’s one thing they won’t be bringing- head coach Mike Sherman. As the Aggies move on up (at least conference wise) like Sherman Helmsley and uh, um whoever played Weezey on The Jeffersons, they’ll do so with a new man leading their college football program.

#7 Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. #8 Texas A&M Aggies: Brutally Honest Game Preview

texas a&m

Get ready for a Pac-12 vs. SEC Challenge! Oh wait, not yet.

In a game that could affect both the conference and national title races, Oklahoma State (3-0) will travel to Texas A&M (2-0) Saturday. Brandon Weeden, the nation’s leading passer with 384.7 yards per game, has helped the Cowboys offense collect 157 points and average 601 yards per game, a mark that ranks second in the country. Leading the Aggies, however, Ryan Tannehill holds a 72.3 completion percentage and has yet to be sacked behind the A&M line.

For the first time ever, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will meet with both teams ranking in the Associated Press top 10. The Aggies lead the series, winning 17 of the previous 28 meetings, but the Cowboys took the 2010 game with a 38-35 thriller in Stillwater, Okla.

#20 Texas A&M Aggies: College Football 77 in 77

texas a&m

It’s very rare that the college football program which happens to be dominating media headlines also gets featured in the 77 in 77. But that’s coincidence coupled with fact that maybe I’m underrating the Texas A&M Aggies.

Ok, so here’s what we know- the SEC did not officially extend an offer to A&M. However, the University did meet and officially vote to explore leaving the Big 12. Right now they’re a decent size fish in a medium pond. But if they get what they want, they could become fish food in the ocean.

Anyways, here’s the latest:

the outcome of the meeting signaled the A&M-to-the-SEC talk will not die anytime in the near future.

According to multiple media outlets, the regents unanimously voted this afternoon to give President R. Loftin Bowen permission to “take action on conference alignment.”  Translated into English, that means Loftin has been given official permission to pursue a move from the Big 12 to the SEC.  The next step in the process — provided there are no legal obstacles that still need to be navigated — will likely be for Loftin to officially approach the SEC regarding A&M’s interest in becoming a member of the conference.

SEC Doesn’t Extend Offer to Texas A&M

In 2010, the fun began. Nebraska to the Big Ten was the first domino to fall. Colorado to the Pac 10 was the second. Utah followed them. Boise Jumped to the Mountain West, TCU left the MWC for the Big East. And now it’s starting up again in 2011. Texas A&M to the SEC is actually not happening now; but still a possibility in the future.

And Mizzou, Clemson and Florida State might follow them.

June-Aug is typically the sports media dead zone; especially so if your baseball team is from Chicago, because they’re almost always out of the race early.

However college football conference recruiting season heated the news up in May 2010, and it could get going again this summer. Maybe. Just not today.
