Not a lot of offense in this year’s Rose Bowl as Stanford held off Wisconsin 20-14 to send the Badgers to three straight losses in “The Granddaddy of Them All.”

Nonetheless, there were some moments where certain NFL prospects impressed and others that had head-scratching moments.

Story-lines run thick in the 99th installment of the Rose Bowl between the #8 Stanford Cardinal and Wisconsin Badgers.

The Badgers are playing in their third straight Rose Bowl and look to hall-of-fame coach Barry Alvarez to improve upon his perfect 3-0 record in Pasasdena.

Stanford enters the game on a three-game streak in BCS Bowls (Fiesta in 2011 and Orange in 2010) as well and is perhaps one of the hottest teams in the country with their last four wins coming against ranked opponents.

#25 Stanford Cardinal: College Football 77 in 77

After two years up at the top rung in college football, the Stanford Cardinal are likely to take a step down. Probably not a BCS appearance in the works for the trees this year, but they’ll still stand tall with a winning season. It all starts with trying to replace Andrew Luck who’s now the franchise QB with the Indianapolis Colts.

They have the Pac-12’s best returning rusher in Stepfan Taylor, so he’ll be the focus of the offense this year; while they break in a new signal caller in either Brett Nottingham or Josh Nunes.

#4 Stanford Crushes #22 Notre Dame: (Andrew) Luck of the non-Irish

Two years ago Toby Gerhart, now with the Minnesota Vikings then with the Stanford Cardinal, ran for over 200 yards on Notre Dame. The performance moved him up the Heisman Trophy pecking order, and he lost (by the slimmest margin of all time) to current member of the New Orleans Saints then member of the Alabama Crimson Tide Mark Ingram.

Tonight Andrew Luck, the mortal lock to the be the #1 pick in the NFL Draft in April intended to stake his claim for the most prestigious trophy in college football by exploiting the Fighting Irish. But there was no luck of the Irish. And it actually wasn’t luck of the Cardinal either. It was skill and talent of the Cardinal: Luck, Colby Fleener, Stepfan Taylor etc.
