Braxton Miller could have Antwaan Randle El type NFL career

braxton-miller

When Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller switched positions, many media members portrayed the decision as a selfless act by an individual placing team needs above his own. That’s a half-truth. Miller has no NFL future as a QB. He does have a lot of pro potential as a wide receiver though. So the situation is actually a win-win for Braxton Miller, for both his individual, and his team goals.

Take the case of former Indiana quarterback Antwaan Randle El? Like Miller, he wasn’t tall enough to play quarterback in the NFL, so Randle El moved to receiver where he had a very fine pro career. He especially excelled on special teams. Braxton Miller is dynamic like Randle El, but he has more size.

Michigan State’s Branden Dawson punches Purdue’s Travis Carroll: VIDEO

Branden-Dawson

During the Michigan State Spartans utter destruction of the Purdue Boilermakers today, you might have noticed a little punch thrown by State forward Branden Dawson on Purdue’s Travis Carroll. Tom Izzo coached players do not act like this; McDonald’s All-Americans do not like act like this. Watch the video to see the act for yourself. Of course, the Spartans deny it. Deny deny deny:

Michigan State sports information director Matt Larson sent the following in an email to the BTN:

“The angle of Branden Dawson that BTN had during the broadcast certainly makes it look like there might have been a punch. However, I’ve viewed an angle from underneath the basket and that does not appear to be the case.”

#8 Michigan State easily handle the #17 Wisconsin Badgers (Rapid Reaction)

The game started out with the characteristic exchange of runs for the #8 Michigan State Spartans and #17 Wisconsin Badgers, but it wasn’t long before the Spartans jumped out to a commanding lead and an impressive 69-55 win.

The Spartans (21-5, 10-3) excelled in every facet of the game and surely looked like they could be primed for another Final Four run under Tom Izzo.

Meanwhile, the Badgers (19-7, 8-5) appear to lack a realistic identity on the offensive end and were surprisingly exposed defensively at the Breslin Center.

Michigan St. Wins 20+ in 2 years; Not bad for a “Basketball School”

michigan-state-logo

On the banks of the Red Cedar there’s a school that’s known to sports fans.

Their specialty is college basketball, and the Spartans also play great hockey. Excuse me for taking the Michigan State fight song, and changing the lyrics. But when people think about MSU sports, Tom Izzo’s hoops program comes to mind first. Six Final Fours in 11 years will do that.

Spartan football was a national powerhouse in the 1960s; and since then MSU has produced a Rose Bowl in 1988, some great wide receivers, and not much else. However, there is a very rich football history in East Lansing beyond that. Legendary leader Duffy Daugherty led the Spartans to four national titles during the 1950s.

And this year’s Spartans, led by senior QB Kirk Cousins could tie the school record for wins with a win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game, and then break it with a win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Wisconsin and Michigan State Meet for Big Ten Supremacy (Game Preview)

ESPN College GameDay is heading to East Lansing to watch the Big Ten’s two best teams face off in prime-time. After being snubbed in the recent BCS rankings, the #6 Wisconsin Badgers (6-0) feel they have a lot to prove while the #16 Michigan State Spartans (5-1) hope to emerge from the shadows as a BCS contender.

All eyes are on Heisman Hopeful Russell Wilson and how he reacts to a stifling Spartans defense. The Badgers have not fared well in East Lansing while dropping their last three at Spartan Stadium, including their only regular season loss in 2010.

Michigan State DL Vernon Gholston Suspended; Punched Michigan OL

The Big Ten Conference imposed a one-game suspension on Michigan State defensive lineman William Gholston for violating the Big Ten Sportslike Conduct Agreement during the Spartans’ game against Michigan on Oct. 15, 2011.

Unfortunately, the suspension comes for this week’s huge game versus the #4 Wisconsin Badgers. For a preview of that game go here.

Michigan State Spartans Win National Weekly Award

msu-dance-team-sparty

Beating their “big brother” and in-state rival for the fourth consecutive time, and also assuming the driver seat of legends division race propelled the Michigan State Spartans (5-1) to earn the Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Oct. 15.

Keshawn Martin scored twice in the third quarter, redeeming himself for his dropped touchdown pass on the first Sparty drive of the game. And the Spartans held off the Wolverines late for a 28-14 win, matching Michigan State’s longest win streak in the series since a four-game win streak from 1959-62.

Michigan Suffers 1st Season Loss at Michigan St. Still Have Cool New Uniforms

Just like I predicted on Thursday morning, the #23 Michigan State Spartans pulled the upset over the #11 Michigan Wolverines. It’s the first loss of the season for UM, and their fourth in a row to State. Little brother no more? And entire graduating class of Spartans is now undefeated against their in-state rivalry.

But hey Michigan still has some really cool new retro uniforms (more on that later). MSU used a big 14 point third quarter to win 28-14 and take control of the Legends division in the Big Ten. The winner of this game has the inside track to representing the division in the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis.

#11 Michigan Wolverines vs. #23 Michigan State Spartans: Brutally Honest Game Preview

Michigan Wolverines vs. Michigan State Spartans, the battle for Great Lakes State supremacy.

Basically, if you’re a college football fan who lives in the Upper Midwest, and you don’t have a boner (figuratively, not literally of course) for this game then…..you are a terrorist. There is no question about it, you’re not with us, but with the terrorists.

As relevant a national game as any this weekend, as heated a rivalry as any, story-lines galore:

the “little brother has won the last three, the big brother looks to finally be ready to move out of his parents basement now after losing his job and gaining some weight the past few years. And only one loss combined with the two teams. Let’s get it on!

Spartans’ Jerel Worthy has Bad Ass Anti-Michigan Wolverines Tattoo

Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy’s NFL Draft stock is about as high as anyone in the Spartans, or even anyone in the Big Ten. He also has a tattoo that entails everything that makes college football such an awesome game. Take a closer look and notice the tattoo’s homage to the rivalry with Michigan. What an affront it is to the Wolverines, love it!

Unemployed Detroit Man REVELS in Lions, Tigers, Wolverines Successes

This comes to me from a Detroit area man, and sports fan, who’s enduring a professional setback, and some personal financial uncertainty right now. Yes, you might have heard a thing or two in the news about the city of Detroit and its economic hardships. Now you’re hearing about their athletic successes as well.

Well the media often likes to present those two situations together, often into being something they’re not.

We’re here to tell you what really happens when sports triumph hits an economically depressed city. Here’s our piece from Detroit Sports Fan:

Tigers Leading ALDS, Lions and Wolverines 9-0: Pure Michigan

matt_stafford

Bloomberg News reported that the success of Detroit sports would inject another $140 million into the economy. As the Detroit Red Wings get started, the motor city’s most famous and successful sports brand complements the Lions winning ways (4-0, one of just two undefeated teams left in the NFL), the Detroit Tigers winning the AL Central and leading the New York Yankees in the ALDS 2-1.

And then you have the #11 Michigan Wolverines who are 5-0 and just down the road in Ann Arbor. Sure the Pistons are still a complete train wreck, but the NBA is on lockout, so we won’t really see that.
