The Chicago Bulls will have to take stock now of what they can and cannot do, as they will be sans Derrick Rose for most, if not all of the season. This changes their complexion and outlook completely. Bulls.com reporter Sam Smith proposes an idea that they might even play for the lottery, a la the San Antonio Spurs when David Robinson was hurt.

We all know that worked out amazingly, as the Spurs subsequently got Tim Duncan. But there’s another route to take as well- acquiring Pau Gasol from the Los Angeles Lakers, possibly in a deal involving Luol Deng.

According to Smith as you’ll read below, Gasol wants out of L.A. and wants into Chicago. Oh and he and Kobe Bryant hate each other:

NBA Trade Deadline: Possible suitors for the Timberwolves’ Michael Beasley

Plenty of names will be floated around in the next week-plus as the NBA trade deadline approaches on March 15th.  Over the next week, I am going to take a look at which players are likely to be dealt and what teams might be interested in acquiring said player.  Michael Beasley‘s name has been on the trade block since the Minnesota Timberwolves used the second overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft on Derrick Williams.  With the T-Wolves signing Kevin Love to a max deal extension, it’s almost certain Beasley will be traded since he doesn’t seem to be part of Minnesota’s long-term plan.

Houston Rockets Found Coach; What’s Next This Off-Season?

Rockets cheerleaders

Like we are currently seeing in the NFL, the 2011 NBA off-season is up in the air with a lockout looming.  Free agency could be delayed and completely restructured depending on the new agreement reached by the owners and players.  Still, The Sports Bank continues to break down all thirty NBA teams to see what areas they need to address in the off-season.

The Houston Rockets have already tackled one task by hiring Kevin McHale as their new head coach.  That is just the beginning though as the team faces a huge question about Yao Ming‘s future as they look to up-grade their roster and get back into the NBA Playoffs.

The Sports Guy refers to himself as the Picasso of ESPN’s NBA Trade Machine.  Well if he is Picasso then The Sports Bank‘s Peter Christian and David Kay are the da Vinci and van Gogh of the trade machine (though neither would cut their own ear off while working on a trade… or at least I don’t think.)

In this new feature, Peter and David will play the role of NBA general manager.  One will propose a challenge to the other to make a trade happen with certain requirements and the other will accept the mission like he were Tom Cruise and explain why all parties involved would pull the trigger on the deal.  You can check out our first challenge when Peter blew up the Pistons roster.
