Penn State players defecting en masse

silas-redd

Four Penn State players are gone. Redshirt safety Tim Buckley transferred to NC State. He was the first. Then came star tailback Silas Redd who rushed for over 1200 yards last year. He’s now a USC Trojan.

Junior TE Kevin Haplea is expected to transfer to Florida State. Only had 3 catches, and 1 TD but was an integral part of their blocking scheme.

Life after sanctions for Penn State, Jordan Hill and company

Defensive tackle Jordan Hill is arguably the best player on the current Penn State team (assuming Silas Redd leaves as he’s rumored to be doing so). Hill was at Big Ten Media Day, so I asked him other than wins how does this team heal?

“Being together, being through this.  Going out and just playing football. You know if we just sat there and gave up, we would regret it for the rest of our lives. We keep looking forward  and just being around each other and sticking together. That’s all we really need,” he answered.

Coach Bill O’Brien, who left the New England Patriots to come to a program hit hard with NCAA sanctions has told his team that every game this year will be their bowl game since they aren’t allowed to go to one.

Penn State lucky to avoid television banishment

penn-st.-logo

For all the talk of the death penalty, and what Penn State got sanctioned with, (and what they didn’t get sanctioned with) one penalty would have hit PSU very hard had it been applied- a television ban.

Penn St. athletic director David Joyner was at Big Ten Media Day, and he discussed how much tv coverage of the team means to his program:

2012 Big Ten Power Rankings: post media day edition

michigan-wolverines-cheerleaders

These are highly subject to change. Brady Hoke remarked at Media Day that UM was picked fifth in their division a year ago; and just outside the top 25 in the year they won their last national title- 1997.

So maybe these rankings don’t really mean all that much? Of course, that won’t stop you from reading them and commenting, right?

Wisconsin Badgers comment on Penn State sanctions

badgers-mascot

It’s the topic everyone wants to talk about today, and for good reason- Penn State. The sanctions handed down by the NCAA and the Big Ten will dominate sports media today, and the talk of the league media days later this week. Now only four teams within the Leaders division are eligible for the league title game: Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

Therefore, all four benefited from the ruling that made PSU in eligible. Of course, you won’t hear the Badgers say that of course. Here’s what the athletic department did have to say:

Update: Jerry Sandusky on Suicide Watch; Sanctions possible for PSU?

jerry_sandusky

Update from MSNBC:

Karl Rominger said Sandusky was under individual guard at the county jail, known as suicide watch, and was apart from the general prison population, Reuters reported.

It was not clear if Sandusky had acted in a way that threatened his own life, or if the move was standard procedure in such a high-profile case.

Rominger reiterated that the former defensive coach for Penn State football will appeal the verdict, a process that can happen when Sandusky is sentenced in 90 days or so.

Make no mistake, this college football story is a not a football story. It’s a million times bigger than that. The Harrisburg Patriot-News’ Sara Ganim won a Pulitzer for reporting on this, and she’s a news reporter, not a sports reporter.

Jerry Sandusky was convicted tonight on 45 of 48 counts of child sex abuse. Even his own adopted son accused of him of doing so. Per sentencing guidelines, he’ll get at least 60 years, and faces a maximum of 442 years in prison. He’ll find out his specific fate in 90 days, but this much is clear- he’ll die in prison and rot in hell.

JUSTICE has prevailed!

But what about the Penn State program?

More Penn State coaches say they showered with young boys

penn-st.-logo

Just when you thought the details of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, and the Penn State cover-up of his alleged child rape couldn’t offend your sensibilities and morals any further, we learned today during the Sandusky trial that other coaches, in addition to Jerry Sandusky used to shower with little boys in Happy Valley.

Yes, this only gets creepier, sicker and weirder. Apparently, it was common practice for grown adult men to be showering with young boys in the PSU college football program.

Mike McQueary to sue Penn State, seek whistleblower status

mike-mcqueary

Former Penn State wide receivers coach Mike McQueary is filing a whistleblower lawsuit against Penn State. The paperwork was filed today on behalf of his lawyer Eliot Strokoff. That is his name- how unfortunate that we are not joking. You have to admit that’s funny.

Genuinely funny, not dark humor like how Jerry Sandusky is being represented by a man who impregnated a minor who was about a third his age.

A writ of summons for a civil case was filed in county court today; giving Penn State University notice that he’s suing them.

Pedophilia Stadium instead? Paterno family turns down Penn St. stadium namesake

joe-paterno

The family of Joe Paterno turned down an offer from Penn State University, which sought to rename Beaver Stadium after the late college football leader in Division 1 coaching victories, according to a report from The Patriot-News yesterday.

How about Child Rape Stadium instead? That way you can name it after Paterno’s right hand man of many years Jerry Sandusky. I just realized how odd it is that the stadium shares its name with a slang term for female genitalia, when it’s now become synonymous with the type of acts that only NAMBLA would approve of; illegal and immoral behavior by a man who isn’t really interested in “beaver.” (allegedly)

(again how the f*** is Jerry Sandusky actually married? Who the f*** marries/stays married to [an alleged] child rapist?)

Penn State spring football, life after Jerry Sandusky, Joe Paterno

jerry_sandusky

It was the biggest fall from grace in sports history. Joe Paterno, the all time college football leader in wins, lives just long enough to see his reputation tarnished as an enabler of child rape, and the job he held for multiple decades terminated.

Before Paterno passed on, he stayed alive long enough to see his former right hand man, Jerry Sandusky, deservedly vilified in the media as one of the biggest monsters to disgrace the game.

And of course, this was all the biggest sports news story of 2011. As it should have been.

With Paterno deceased and Sandusky no longer a permanent fixture with the program, where does PSU go from here?

Jerry Sandusky Watched Paterno’s Last Game in Beaver Stadium President’s Box!

jerry_sandusky

There really is no way to describe just how much Jerry Sandusky truly was an integral part of the Penn State program. Even up to the final days before his arrest, and the media sensation exploded, Sandusky was a college football institution in State College, long after his retirement.
