The injury-riddled Packers beat the Cardinals for their fourth straight win

Injuries are as common to football as cheese is to Wisconsin, but the plague that has hit Green Bay is way beyond what any normal team goes through.

After beating the Arizona Cardinals by the score of 31-17, the Packers (6-3) are legitimately without 11 starting players. New injuries to WR Jordy Nelson, OL Bryan Bulaga and LB/DE Clay Matthews only adds salt to an open wound as the team enters their bye week. [Read more…]

Green Bay Packers running game in shambles in 24-15 win over Jaguars

Despite giving the Jacksonville Jaguars multiple opportunities to compete, the Green Bay Packers held on for a 24-15 win in a game where it could be argued the Jaguars looked like the better team.

Blaine Gabbert outplayed Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ (5-3) run-game was non-existent against a Jaguars (1-6) team who’s one of the league’s worst at defending the run.

A win is a win, but it leaves you wondering if the Jaguars’ moral victory is slightly better than the Packers’ real victory.

Green Bay Packers schedule gets easier with the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Green Bay Packers opened the season by playing teams who now have a combined record of 28-18 including the San Francisco 49ers (5-2), Chicago Bears (5-1) and Houston Texans (6-1).

Against the league’s cream of the crop, they went 2-1 and are inching back up the power rankings with each week’s stronger showing.

Finally, the Packers get to welcome one of the league’s bottom-feeders into Lambeau Field. The Jacksonville Jaguars have displayed more problems than positives and have a huge mountain to climb to compete with the Green and Gold. [Read more…]

Aaron Rodgers Spreads It Around While Packers Improve to 5-0

Green Bay’s 25 unanswered points helped the Packers move to 5-0 after beating the Atlanta Falcons, 25-14, at the Georgia Dome on Sunday Night. Superstar Aaron Rodgers completed passes to twelve different receivers while fighting for his life behind a makeshift offensive line.

The loss was a spoiler for Matt Ryan who came into Sunday’s affair with a 21-2 record at home. Now, two of Ryan’s three career losses in Atlanta (the other being the 2010 NFC Championship game) can be credited to the Packers.

Chicago Bears Season Circling the Drain After Loss to Packers

It’s safe to say the Monsters of the Midway are toiling because their 2011 season is certainly in the toilet.

The Chicago Bears didn’t get the Green Bay Packers A-game, or even their B+game, but they still got beat pretty bad. As my colleague in America’s Dairyland points out, it was an ugly penalty and turnover filled slopfest.

The turf at Soldier Field is among the worst in all of sports, but it was so bad yesterday that it necessitated a stoppage in play. The surface is a fine metaphor for the style of the game, and the Bears 2011 season prospects- all of them resemble excrement.

Also resembling excrement is the statistics surrounding the Bears running game and Matt Forte.

Green Bay Packers Cut 23 Players, Trade 2, Place 2 on IR

The NFL kicks off on Thursday, you know what that means- the turk is coming to visit! The Green Bay Packers today released 23 players, placed two on injured reserve and traded FB Quinn Johnson and G Caleb Schlauderaff.

The cuts announced Saturday were:

Packers Rookie WR Randall Cobb Likely Out For Season Opener

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Packers rookie wideout Randall Cobb is “listed as having contusions to both knees after getting slammed during a kickoff return Friday night against the Arizona Cardinals.”

While listed day-to-day, the injury appears to be more serious because Cobb is hesitant to answer whether or not he will be ready for the September 8th opener against the New Orleans Saints. [Read more…]

Packers Down Cardinals 28-20; Preseason Notes and Links

All three Green Bay Packers quarterbacks threw for a touchdown in a 28-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field on Friday. In fact, the trio combined to complete 21 of their 27 passes for 297 yards and helped the Packers improve to 1-1 on the preseason.

Miami at Green Bay: Inexperienced Packers to Watch

Brace yourselves Packers fans, the team’s line-up on Sunday will be reminiscent of a pre-season game during the third and fourth quarters. That means the roster will be full of guys who are not regular starters or possibly have never started in an NFL game at all.

The Packers were dealt with more bad news on Wednesday when they learned that rising-star Jermichael Finley would be out 8-10 weeks, essentially the rest of the season. This adds to the already long list of key players out for the season (RB Ryan Grant, S Morgan Burnett and LB Nick Barnett). Don’t forget the players who are banged up and questionable for the game with the Dolphins this weekend (QB Aaron Rodgers, LB Clay Matthews, TE Donald Lee, etc…).

Here’s a chance to check out some of the inexperienced Packers who will need to step up for the team to stay in contention for the NFC North title.
