Green Bay Packers mild winter: quiet in free agency, stadium renovation

lambeau-field

It’s been a very mild winter in Green Bay, Wisconsin. As well as the rest of the United States. But the tundra is not freezing over as much, and the Packers have been pretty quiet in free agency this NFL offseason. This year more than ever, they’ve reinforced the reputation as a team that likes to build through the draft. It’s what GM Ted Thompson likes to do.

He’s a value GM and likes to draft BPA: best player available.

The biggest news they’ve made in free agency is letting Matt Flynn leave. But the mild winter has also had consequence on the Lambeau Field addition. The scoreboard addition seems to be moving ahead as scheduled, or even faster.

Cleveland Browns: Open letter to Pres. Mike Holmgren

cleveland-browns-issues

Bill Smith, host of News, Notes and Rumors on Moohead radio composes the following letter.

Dear Mr. Holmgren:

We are the long suffering diehard fans of the Browns.  Despite filling the old Browns stadium every home game, we lost our team.  Since we got the new Browns back in 1999, we have suffered through losing season after losing season.  We have seen coaches, GMs, and top 10 draft picks come and go each promising to turn the team around only to be fired for being worse than the previous one.

Packers Off-Season Must; Find Answer at Running Back

ryan grant packers

With an offense led by Aaron Rodgers and a seemingly endless amount of weapons on the perimeter, a running game has not been integral for the Green Bay Packers the past couple of years.  However, with Ryan Grant hitting the free agent market this off-season, general manager Ted Thompson will have to make a decision about which direction to go with the position.

What Should The Packers Do With Free Agent Jermichael Finley?

With Ryan Grant, Donald Driver, Jermichael Finley, Scott Wells, and Matt Flynn all free agents and the Green Bay Packers needing some drastic upgrades on the defensive side of the football, Pack general manager Ted Thompson has some major decisions to make this off-season.

Of the aforementioned names, Finley’s is the most intriguing.  He is one of the most dynamic tight ends in the game (ya know, when he isn’t dropping passes), but should the Packers be willing to give him a long-term extension and for how much?

The Fantasy Nerd: Free Agency Winners

What’s Next for the Seattle Seahawks?

pete carroll

The Seattle Seahawks were knocked off their high horse on Sunday losing to the Chicago Bears 35-24. Neither the 12th Man, “Beast Mode,” or Matt Hasselbeck swimming in the fountain of youth were on display in the Windy City. Instead of looking like the miracle workers from the week before, the Seahawks looked like the team that went 2-6 on the road during the regular season.

It seemed as though nothing could go right for Seattle. After a quick three and out by the offense, the defense gave up a 58 yard passing touchdown to TE Greg Olsen on the Bears’ third play from scrimmage. On the ensuing drive, in ironic fashion, coach Pete Carroll decided to punt on 4th and 1 inside Bears territory. This coming from a team that was playing with house money and with “nothing to lose.”
