John Tavares

It’s almost Thanksgiving, which means it’s November and that the New York Islanders should be in the midst of some sort of record-setting losing streak. Well thanks to the additions of Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy on October fourth, plus the recently stellar play of goaltender Jaroslav Halak and secondary scoring that has been there all season, the Islanders are playing like the best team in all of New York.

Changes Abound for Blackhawks As Patrick Kane Moves to Wing

patrick kane

After what can only be described as a less than stellar homecoming on Tuesday, the Chicago Blackhawks will be sporting a way different look on offense when the New York Islanders come to town Friday night. The Patrick Kane at center experiment, largely heralded as a success in the early portion of the season, will come to an end, as the 23-year old will be moved back to his native position of right wing. Marcus Kruger will also be moved up to second line center as the Hawks try to revive an offense that has struggled with inconsistency in recent weeks.

Chicago Blackhawks Season Preview: Meet the IceHogs

Lost in the shuffle amid all the roster moves that were made today by the Chicago Blackhawks as they prepare for their regular season opener on Friday was the fact that the roster for the Rockford IceHogs, their AHL affiliate, was solidified as well. Several players who were sent down today, including Brandon Pirri, Dylan Olsen, and Marcus Kruger, undoubtedly will be looked at to make a big impact on the upcoming season for the Hogs, who are coming off a disappointing season in which they finished in last place in the West Division. The injury-depleted Blackhawks didn’t help matters in terms of prying players away from Rockford, but so is the life of an AHL affiliate.

Blackhawks Notes: Storylines Heading Into First Preseason Game

The Chicago Blackhawks are headed to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for their first preseason game tomorrow night, where they will play the Edmonton Oilers. The game, while not available on TV in Chicago, is going to be streaming on the Hawks’ official team website, and it will provide fans’ first glimpse into some of the changes that the team has made this off-season.

Big name players like Marian Hossa (who is finally reporting to camp tomorrow after attending Pavol Demitra’s funeral last week, as well as attending the birth of his daughter), Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, and Patrick Kane will not be making the trip up to Canada, but there is still plenty to pay attention to as the team suits up against an actual opponent for the first time since April:

Lemieux Makes Hypocritical Accusations Against the NHL

Two Stanley Cups, an Olympic gold medal, a World Cup championship, a Canada Cup, three Hart trophies, six Art Ross trophies and two Conn Smythe trophies later, Mario Lemieux, former player and current co-owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, skated to the Hockey Hall of Fame as one of the greatest players in hockey history.

After seventeen years on the ice in a Penguins’ sweater, it’s easy to assume he’s seen it all. But after Friday’s game against the Islanders, Lemieux was quick to criticize the league for its leniency on Islander players after sixty minutes of aggressive plays.

And it wouldn’t be a completely unfair conclusion to make. That is, if he hadn’t just cut a deal with the devil himself—the infamous Matt Cooke.
