New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers: franchise twins

aaron rodgersbrady

In 1997, the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots came together for a Super Bowl in New Orleans. In 2007, the Pack finished a couple plays short of joining the NE Pats in the NFL title game once again. This season, a Packers-Patriots finale could very well happen; and it’s becoming a trendy pick to actually forecast this scenario.

New England Patriots reach to grab Illini Tavon Wilson in 2nd round

New England certainly needs help in their secondary. They have WRs playing DB for them that’s how short-handed they are. Remember Julian Edelman covering Anquan Boldin in the AFC Title game? Troy Brown actually played some defensive back too; even though he was a wide receiver by trade. And the Patriots legend fittingly announced this pick Tavon Wilson from the Illini, tonight in the 2nd round of the NFL draft.

New England Patriots: most interesting team in 2012 NFL Draft?

asante_samuel

Doesn’t it seem like the New England Patriots go out of their way EVERY season to trade down and acquire more picks? Every year, they’re a fun team to watch on draft day, because they always seem to end up with more picks than anyone else. In 2012, even more so, because they have four picks in the first two rounds.

And even though they were just one Wes Welker drop, or perhaps one inexplicable Tom Brady interception, away from winning the whole thing, they still have a ton of needs (as losing to the worst world champion in sports history taught us). First and foremost are DB, pass rushing in the front seven, depth at OT and OG, and maybe another running back.

New England in Super Bowl 2012: Our Most Popular Patriots Stories

rob gronkowski

Final score: New England 23, Baltimore 20. My prediction in my game preview: NE 24, Bal 21. Not bad!

The New England Patriots are set to take on the New York Giants in the Super Bowl 2012, or Super Bowl 46. They’ll do it in the house of their arch-nemesis, Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. What a fine venue- and storyline for this ’07 Super Bowl rematch. Lots of our Pats stories have blown up this past year, so I’d figure I’d compile them in one spot to re-run them for our new readers; and those who missed it the first time.

Rob Gronkowski, a big, fast second year tight end out of Arizona. He’s redefined the TE position this year through his play, breaking all the records you could ask. And off the field you must take a trip to Gronk Nation. It’s a land that includes posing for risque pics with porn star Bibi Jones while she wears his jersey, or shirtlessly tweeting pics with large phallic symbols to supermodel Kate Upton.

Tom Brady has a number one option in Wes Welker, the greatest slot receiver in NFL history. Michael Irvin called him the best receiver in the game right now. The numbers back that up. And he inspired a great parody song. “Moves like Welker, moves like Welker, moooooooooooooooves like Welker.” Watch it here.

Super Bowl 2012 Early Favorite: Patriots or Giants?

indy-super-bowl

It’s Super Bowl time! Two most storied franchises in NFL history: the New York Giants and New England Patriots are set to square off. The Patriots are the dynasty team of the 2000s in football, winning it all in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Yet they’re still the Boston sports team with the longest title drought- crazy fact isn’t it?

The Giants also have three Super Bowl titles: 1986, 1990 and 2007. They’ve been around a lot longer than the Pats so they also have four more NFL championships from the pre-Super Bowl era.

New England Patriots Running the Table to End Regular Season?

rob gronkowski

On Nov 6th, the New England Patriots 2011 season hit rock bottom. The New York Giants had gotten the best of them yet again, and although it was a close, last second loss on a questionable play, it was very deflating. Especially when combined with the one-sided defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers the week before, it was rare back to back losses for Tom Brady and company.

Then the columns writing the Patriots off started to surface. Everyone thought the Bill Belichick era was dead. Juxtapose that with the talk in September and October when everyone was saying the Patriots were the dominant team in the AFC.

Well, both of those outlooks were wrong. Here’s what we do know, they seem to be in the driver’s seat for the AFC East title, and could very easy finish the season off with 7 straight wins.

Tom Brady, Dirk Nowitzki Named to Top 49 Most Influential List

Think you have juice like Tropicana? These 49 guys have more juice than an entire grove.

AskMen.com published their sixth annual Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2011 list today.  More than 200,000 readers voted- leading to some unexpected results.

NFL Player and University of Michigan alum Tom Brady (New England Patriots) is #42, the only NFL player to make the list. Notably missing from last year’s Top 49 is Drew Brees. The Purdue grad who ranked in at No. 6. I’m surprised that Brady is so low; especially when you consider how every media personality feels the need to mention how awesome is life is every time they mention his name.

And it’s true- not every one of guys gets the chance to be obscenely wealthy, ridiculously famous, good looking, in perfect physical health and married to a supermodel. So really #42, that’s it?

New England Patriots Find New Tailback in Stevan Ridley?

How much longer are the New England Patriots going to go with the Law Firm and Woodhead approach at tailback? Don’t get me wrong, it’s working for them, both BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead are serviceable to solid, but I wonder if they’ll ever bring back a feature back mentality.

The last bulk carrier was Corey Dillon and that was over three years ago. Many draftniks thought they were going to take Trent Richardson’s predecessor in Alabama- Mark Ingram, but it didn’t happen. Instead Ingram went to the Miami Dolphins.

Jaguars Legend Fred Taylor Thanks Patriots, Bill Belichick in Goodbye Presser

Less than 20 players in NFL history have rushed for over 10,000 yards. Jacksonville Jaguars legend Fred Taylor is one of them. Taylor ranks 15th all time in rushing, 1st among Jaguars. He’s also third all time in club history for receptions. Taylor fought through injuries his entire career, but endured to play 11 seasons in Jacksonville and then his final two with the New England Patriots.

In an emotional goodbye press conference this morning, Taylor thanked Patriots coach Bill Belichick “for giving me an opportunity to try to close my career.”

“A classy organization,” Taylor added. “They really know how to do things. I learned a lot. It was a great experience. Mr. Kraft and the Kraft family, I thank you.”
