In the NFL, top players rarely hit the market. It’s even rarer that they hit the market in their prime. Following the 2014 season, Ndamukong Suh may be hitting the free agent market. The mammoth defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions is slated to become a free agent if he doesn’t come to an extension agreement with the team. In just four seasons, Suh has been dominant.

He is the focal point of the Lions defense and has made the Pro Bowl three years. It hasn’t all been good for Suh though. He has been fined over $200,000 in his career for a variety of dirty moves on the field.

Here are five reasons why he will be back with the Lions in 2015 though:

New England Patriots Look Kinda Bad in 34-10 Loss to Detroit Lions

patriots female fans

Again, it’s preseason football and therefore scoreboards about as accurate and meaningful as compliments a stripper gives you, but losing 34-10 to the Detroit Lions wasn’t very promising for the New England Patriots because well, their starters got beaten kinda badly by Motown’s starters.

Chad Ochocinco did not have a good game. He dropped a pass, and had zero catches while being thrown to four times.

Nebraska’s Jared Crick: Best NFL Talent in Big 10, Not the Next Suh

Jared Crick has really torn up opposing offenses in his three years with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ndamukong Suh’s alma mater. Crick is a dominating player in his own right; but he’s not like Suh. Detroit Lions DL Ndamukong Suh was fined $20,000 by the NFL last Wednesday for a hit on Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton.

Infractions aside, Suh is a beast among beasts, and the search is on for NFL teams to find the next game-changing DL in his mold. Crick’s name comes up often in this specific discussion because well obviously he played with Suh and wears the same uniform. But Crick has his own legacy to build.

Detroit Lions DL Ndamukong Suh was fined $20,000 by the NFL Wednesday for a hit on Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton, Suh’s third fine of this sort in the past year. He was obviously upset, tweeting before practice: “$20,000REALLY???!!!!!!… #NFL #BIGFAIL”

The reigning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year grabbed the Bengals rookie ginger-haired quarterback after he released the ball, and threw him to the turf in the first quarter of Friday’s preseason game. Suh was penalized for unnecessary roughness.

Infractions aside, Suh is a beast among beasts, and the search is on for NFL teams to find the next game-changing DL in his mold. How about Jared Crick, who’s tearing it up for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Suh’s alma mater? Well, Crick is a dominating player in his own right; but he’s not like Suh. We’ll explore this more in a future post.

But we may have found another Suh.

Ndamukong Suh, being “Ndominating” in otherwise Bleak Lions Season

suh

Let’s get this out of the way now. Ndamukong Suh has the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award wrapped up. No one else is even close. He’s been one of the few bright spots in a long Detroit Lions season. (Although by Lions standards, this is a much better season than usual- only three of their ten losses have been by nine or more points).

At six-feet-four and 305 pounds, Suh possesses stellar mobility with his uncanny lateral movement on a straight line rush. He runs through the entire play and over blockers pushing them deep into the backfield. In Detroit’s 3-4 defense, he’s produced 8 sacks (tied with former Purdue Boilermakers DE Cliff Avril for the team lead) and 40 solo tackles in 2010.

And his “ndominating play” has often been the subject of controversy this season. He was asked about it at Cowboys Stadium during the Nike Football Media Summit last week.
