QB Matt Barkley Announces He’s Staying at USC for Senior Season

Matt Barkley announced his decision to remain with the USC Trojans for his senior season in front of a Christmas tree in the middle of Heritage Hall on the campus of the University of Southern California. It was a Merry Christmas for SC Nation, as the band, assembled for this press conference, played the fight song in celebration.

Barkley, who led USC to a 10-2 record this season, is projected as a top 5-10 pick in the April draft. Many scouts have him as the second quarterback taken after Andrew Luck. The junior from Newport Beach, California is the last of four prominent Trojan college football players juniors to announce his plans this season.

All-American left tackle Matt Kalil and defensive end Nick Perry are turning pro. All-American safety T.J. McDonald announced Wednesday that he would return for his senior season.

The Minnesota Vikings Christmas List

When a team has been victorious in only two of its thirteen regular season games, there is obviously tremendous room for growth. This necessitates a long list for Santa Claus. Hopefully the printed out version of this arrives on time, with all of the doom and gloom surrounding the U.S. Postal Service. Maybe I will have to track down his e-mail address.

Previously, I have addressed the injury situation in the secondary. I made the pronouncement that the team should fix this with their first round pick. Conventional wisdom dictates that the team will have the pick of the litter due to their lackluster play. If the brass isn’t certain about which way to go, trading the selection or selecting a different position makes sense. This pick is even more valuable with the new salary cap, so the long-term success of the organization rests largely on this.

#6 Stanford Cardinal-USC Trojans: Brutally Honest Game Preview

Stanford vs. USC, sounds like a route to me? Well, maybe not. It’s the Cardinal’s last actual tune-up before their epic clash with the Oregon Ducks on November 12th. Forget Oregon St, they’ll roll over them.

No, the real reason I choose this Pac-12 contest for BHGP is the NFL Draft implications! I’m a draftnik, a mock nerd, so when I see the top pick in the draft taking on the #2 QB! Not to mention there’s at least two, maybe 3-4 more prospects in the this game that could go in the top ten-twenty, let the fun begin!

USC Trojan Trio of Future NFL 1st Round Picks: Barkley, Kalil, Woods

The USC Trojans have two underclassmen (QB Matt Barkley and OT Matt Kalil) who look like top 10 picks in the 2011 draft. And they have a sophomore (WR Robert Woods) who should be a top pick in the 2012 draft. Given all the sanctions USC is under, and their current place in the college football landscape, it’s pretty obvious that all Trojan underclassmen with a legit chance of going pro early; will.

Fresh off their solid 30-17 win at Notre Dame. It was a great chance for the upper midwest to see these three blue chip prospects in action. And given how much the game meant to ND, it ended up being the biggest win of Lane Kiffin‘s USC career.

“You get the sense that this was their Super Bowl here, and all of the official visitors and moving it to a night game, the bye before. So it’s even more pleasing to come in here with all of that stuff going on around and our players played really well,” Kiffin said at the postgame press conference.
