18-foot statue of Lebron James created (video and photos)

NBA and Miami Heat star Lebron James is big…but larger than life? And like F. Scott Fitzgerald once said “a big man has little time for anything other than sitting around and being big.” And Lebron media coverage is larger than life, Now there’s a physical embodiment of his largeness!

PrimeTime Amusements, a global operator, seller and event renter of video arcade machines and simulators, has built an 18-foot foam statue of Lebron James! Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh are currently being built in the company’s South Florida warehouse. Not sure where these statues will eventually end up, or who is going to buy them

Heat 85, Bulls 75: Miami Takes Boring Slogfest in Game 2

Now that the series shifts to Miami, I’m ready for all of my media brethren to run one of these two cliches into the ground. Either a.) Will Smith’s song from 1999 “I’m going to Miami, Bienvenidos a Miami” or last summer’s “I’m taking my talents to South Beach.” Either way, I’m about to throw up on my shoes.

-Don’t act so shocked that Chicago Bulls dropped this one. You knew this series was going 7, or at least 6 whether the Miami Heat win it or not. I did say in my game 1 reaction “there’s NO WAY Chicago keeps up their 10-21 from 3pt range for this series.” I’m not calling myself Bankstradamus for that. Too easy, too obvious. However, I didn’t think the  Bulls would revert to an UGLY 3-20 from behind the arc.

-If there was any NBA playoff game that you had to miss, this would be it. Chicago set a playoff record with just 10 4th quarter points. Lebron James had 9 in the 4th all by himself.

What Should Lebron James Do? (to Avoid Another Playoff Blowout)

Among the many images we see of the ever present individual brand that is NBA superstar Lebron James, maybe Nike’s “What Should I Do?” commercial is the most telling insight into his true personal character. A lot of people misinterpreted it’s meaning.

And maybe I’m reading it incorrectly as well, but what I see is a young superstar who might be less sure of himself than we would normally expect an iconic multi-millionaire/master of the sports universe to be. I don’t think James lacks self-assurance; but he might not be as psychologically ready to shoulder the enormous burdens and gigantic expectations placed upon him.

And in James’ media appearance Monday, one could easily read some uneasiness into his non-verbal communication. Of course, that could simply be because he knows how badly he (and his Miami Heat teammates) were out-played by Luol Deng (and the Chicago Bulls).

Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics: Let the HYPE Begin!

LeBron James Heat

That sound you heard towards the conclusion of Wednesday night’s Heat-Sixers game was the collective pumping of fists from ESPN, ABC and TNT executives, not to mentions those in the NBA’s offices in New York.

Yes, the league’s hype meter is about to be sent into overdrive as Miami’s Big Three (more like a Big Two) clinched a playoff date with the Boston Celtics in a star-studded second round tilt that has been anticipated since the two teams met on October 26 to kick off the regular season (an 88-80 Celtics’ win).

We know that there will be plenty of breathless analysis over how LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will fare against Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, not to mention the James-Delonte West angle and former teammates opposing one another or taking on their former club (James and Shaquille O’Neal, Eddie House and Boston and Chris Bosh and Jermaine O’Neal, just to name a few).

Milwaukee Bucks lose in overtime to Miami Heat, despite near-perfect three quarters

Ahead by 87-83, a crucial lapse in defensive rebounding off a missed free throw in the waning minutes and missed free throws of their own evaporated the Milwaukee Bucks’ chances of knocking off the scorching Miami Heat Friday night at the Bradley Center.

Stop me if you’ve heard this Milwaukee Bucks story before, most notably all of last year until just before the NBA Trading Deadline in February. [Read more…]
