#1 Syracuse vs. #4 Wisconsin: everything you need to know
For the first time in program history, the Wisconsin Badgers are making back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances. In typical fashion, most critics were underestimating UW’s chances of advancing past the first weekend but Bo Ryan has done it again. The Badgers will match up with top seed Syracuse Thursday night in an East Regional game in Boston. Many were hopping off the Orange bandwagon after Fab Melo was suspended for the NCAA Tournament, but ‘Cuse avoided upset bids in the opening weekend to keep their dancing shoes shined.

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series. Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days. This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days. We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order. We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.
With all their key contributors returning except for Rick Jackson, the Syracuse Orange have the talent to compete for a National Championship. With the program soon jumping ship to the ACC (don’t get me started how much I hate this), Jim Boeheim hopes to make one of his final seasons in the Big East a memorable one.

I will look back at the previous week and peak ahead to some of the key match-ups in the next seven days. (Click here if you missed my most recent Bracketology.)

Pitt, Syracuse, and Villanova have earned the title of the teams to beat but the next eight are battling for their tourney lives already… and it is only the second week of January. Here are my updated Big East basketball power rankings.

Cincinnati is still unbeaten. West Virginia is really struggling. UConn needs someone else to step up besides Kemba Walker. TCU is coming to water down the conference. We learned a lot in the first week of Big East play so here are my updated power rankings. Be sure to check back every Monday for an update.
