Ohio State Buckeyes’ Jon Diebler: The Next Kyle Korver?

Diebler

Say the name threebler in Ohio and just about anyone would point you to Jon Diebler.  The former Ohio State guard holds a plethora of Buckeyes’ 3-pt scoring records including the all-time OSU record for 3-pointers made and the single season record for baskets from behind the arc.

Ohio State 71, Penn St. 60: BTT Championship Rapid Reaction

The surprising Penn State Nittany Lions stuck around for as long as they could, but the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes proved to be too much to handle in a 71-60 win for their third Big Ten Tournament Championship in the last five years.

William Buford led the way with 18 for the Buckeyes and Talor Battle paced the Nittany Lions with 24 points on 9-of-20 shooting.

College Hoops 101 (3/8/11)

ucla basketball

First off, let me say that I am rather disappointed with my lack of college basketball watching this season.  I did say that I was going with a “quality over quantity” approach this year and not watching a game for an eight-day stretch when I was covering the Packers in the Super Bowl did not help my numbers.  My goal this week is to watch all 15 Big East Tournament games (you can check out my preview/predictions for that tourney) and hit the 25-game mark this week.

If you are unfamiliar with College Hoops 101, it is a weekly feature here at The Sports Bank that runs every Monday and breaks down everything you need to know going on in the world of college basketball.  I will look back at the previous week and peak ahead to some of the key match-ups in the next seven days.  Click here to check out my updated bracketology.

#1 Ohio State Gets Last Laugh on #10 Wisconsin

Big 10 Champions

After the alleged “spitting incident” in Madison less than a month ago, Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said, “All I know is we won the game, deal with it.” By dealing with it, did he mean for the Buckeyes to embarrass the Badgers for 40 minutes the next time the two teams played? If so, Ohio State sure “dealt with it” on Sunday, winning 93-65.

Is Jon Diebler the Nation’s Best 3-Point Shooter?

Jon Diebler

There’s been some dominant shooting performances in college basketball this year. Less than a month ago, we saw Jordan Taylor light up #1 Ohio State in the second half en route to a comeback upset and just recently seniors Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis put on a shooting clinic on senior night against Villanova. However, Jon Diebler’s outing Tuesday night may be the best yet.

#1 Ohio State Stomps #20 Minnesota on Super Bowl Sunday

How They Won: Jared Sullinger will always be priority number one for opposing teams, but when the Ohio State guards are playing the way they did today they are nearly unstoppable. Minnesota witnessed this as they trailed the entire game after the first two minutes, ultimately losing 82-69.

It was a total team effort from the Buckeyes on Sunday as all five starters scored in double-digits. Per usual, Ohio State was able to move the ball around effortlessly, hence the even distribution of points. Unlike the Evan Turner-led team last year, this team is able to score in a number of different ways, which was evident against the Gophers.

Undefeated Season in the Cards For #1 Ohio State?

jared sullinger

Tuesday night’s game between top-ranked Ohio State and No. 12 Purdue – freshman phenom Jared Sullinger vs. the Moore/Johnson combo – had the makings for a classic Big Ten battle. Instead, it was a one-sided affair in favor of the Buckeyes as they embarrassed the Boilermakers 87-64.

Rapid Reaction: Ohio State 73, Illinois 68

It’s the return of the sad Illini face, boys and girls.

The Illinois Fighting Illini suffered their first home loss of the season on Saturday, taken down by the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes 73-68.

Dubious officiating, unfortunate bounces and, most importantly of all, terrible shooting plagued the Illini all game and ultimately led to their demise. [Read more…]

THE Ohio State Buckeyes Big Ten Preview

jared sullinger

Ohio State has stormed to a 13-0 start, winning every game by double-digits. They are also 1-0 against the AP top-25 (win against former #10 Florida). While they haven’t been tested early on, the Big Ten schedule will prove just how tough the Buckeyes really are.

Game to Watch: OSU at Wisconsin, February 12. The Buckeyes are 0-7 at the Kohl Center during Bo Ryan’s current nine-year stint with the Badgers. This includes the Greg Oden/Conley runner-up team of ’06-’07. By the time these two teams meet, the Buckeyes may very well be the #1 team in the nation. The Badger football team already knocked off the then #1 ranked Buckeyes. Could this be a similar fate for the OSU basketball team? This may just be the best game out of the entire Big Ten schedule, let alone Ohio State’s.

99 in 99: #4 Ohio State Buckeyes

ohio state cheerleaders

The Ewing Theory will be put to the test this season in Columbus.  The Ohio State Buckeyes lose National Player of the Year, “His Royal Smoothness” Evan Turner but could actually be a better team without him as Thad Matta returns his other four starters and ushers in a highly touted class of freshmen.

The Sports Bank’s “99 in 99” ranks the 72 power conference college basketball programs and top 27 mid-majors.  Click here if you missed teams #5-#99.
