Four former Wisconsin Badgers headed to the 2013 Pro Bowl

Russell Wilson Pro Bowl

Late scratches to Atlanta’s Matt Ryan and New England’s Rob Gronkowski paved the way for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels to join the league’s best in the 2013 Pro Bowl.

Wilson and Daniels join Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas and Texans defensive end J.J. Watt as the four former Wisconsin Badgers to make the team.

Here’s a quick summary of their great seasons and how they ended up as Pro Bowl invitees: [Read more…]

Wisconsin Badgers Ricky Wagner has his eyes set on the Outland Trophy

In today’s age of college football, a big beastly offensive line is pretty much synonymous with the Wisconsin Badgers. With each year here and gone, the Badgers maintain one of the best units in the country, never showing any sign of slowing down.

This season’s big man on campus and leader of the offensive line is senior left guard Ricky Wagner (literally the big man on campus at 6-6 and 317 pounds) who has some legendary shoes to fill at the position.

I had a chance to catch up with Wagner at Badgers Media Day to talk about where he thinks his career is heading and what the offensive line has in store for an exciting 2012 season.

Cleveland Browns Re-sign Joe Thomas: 7 Years, $84 Million, $44 Million Guaranteed

The Cleveland Browns re-upped with Pro Bowl offensive tackle Joe Thomas last night. He was given a seven-year, $84 million extension with roughly $44 million in guaranteed money. What Gabe Carimi Brings to the Chicago Bears

On Thursday, the Chicago Bears addressed their greatest need when drafting Wisconsin’s offensive lineman Gabe Carimi with their first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Badgers Gabe Carimi wins Outland Trophy

The announcement of the Wisconsin Badgers returning to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 2000 was only the beginning of a historical year in Madison. On Thursday night, senior offensive lineman Gabe Carimi was named the Outland Trophy winner, an award handed out to the best interior lineman in the country.

Carimi joins former Badger and current Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas as the second Wisconsin football player to win the award in the last five years.

The Outland Trophy, which has been awarded annually by the FWAA since 1946 is named after the late John Outland, a lineman at Pennsylvania at the turn of the century. The Outland Trophy is the third oldest award in major college football behind the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell award.
