#19 Penn State Nittany Lions vs. #12 Wisconsin Badgers: Brutally Honest Preview

tom bradley

I understand why Tom Bradley was chosen as interim successor to Joe Paterno, but he really isn’t the warm and cuddly face the University needs right now. At a time when the program should be showing great humility, Bradley has been anything but. He’s only making more people hate PSU.

But who really cares about him as he’s gone in two games anyway. This contest in Madison is a play-in game to the inaugural Big Ten Championship game. Simple as that. Winner goes to Indy, for a chance to reach the Rose Bowl. Loser goes to the Outback Bowl maybe. Or in the case of PSU they could drop all the way down to the Ticket City.

I still say they do the right thing, and decline a bid. Penn St. has gotten damage control wrong at every single step of this scandal, time to finally get one right.

Amidst Scandal, Penn St DT Devon Still Quietly Having Dominant Season

devon_still

You’d be hard pressed to find an All-American college football season as obscure and overlooked as Devon Still in 2011. Sure, the pedophilia scandal at Penn State is much bigger and more important than football.

And the media is treating it as such they should. Also, leading to Still’s relative obscurity is the fact that offense sells tickets, and gets the glory. Defense is overlooked. And as well know, the PSU offense is awfully bad, with the quarterbacking and passing game phantasmagoric.

However, Still, a 6-5, 310-pound senior is getting it done for a Penn State defense that ranks third nationally in points against (13.0 per game), trailing only Alabama and LSU.

Penn State Gets Ex-FBI Director to Lead Internal Investigation

penn st. logo

On Friday, the NCAA said they would launch their own investigation into the Penn State pedophilia scandal. This will accompany the criminal investigation into the allegations against Jerry Sandusky. And then there’s the internal investigation by Penn State University itself.

Former FBI director Louis Freeh was named Monday as the leader of that investigation.

According to the AP, Freeh’s inquiry

“will go as far back as 1975, a much longer period than a grand jury report issued earlier this month.

Freeh was named Monday to oversee the university board of trustees’ internal investigation into the abuse allegations that ultimately led to the ouster of longtime football coach Joe Paterno and university President Graham Spanier.

Freeh said his goal was to conduct a comprehensive, fair and quick review. His team of former FBI agents, federal prosecutors and others has already begun the process of reading the grand jury report and looking at records.”

We know the NCAA investigation may not have a lot of teeth. So it’s good to see that there is a former “G man” leading the school’s internal investigation. I also have faith justice will be served as the Federales will get down to business as they work on their case against the school.

#21 Penn State vs. Ohio State: Brutally Honest Game Preview

penn state rioting

Last week, the Penn State Nittany Lions played their first game after the biggest story is sports history unfolded on their campus. It led to their first Big Ten loss of the season. This week they’ll take to the road for the first time in the wake of the PSU pedophilia scandal, and face the team they knocked off the front page of the college football scandal sheet- the Ohio State Buckeyes.

There are four big traditional powers in the Big Ten, two of which (these two right here) are going to be down for awhile as they are programs in disarray. Of course, the level of disarray and the fallout yet to come is a million times worse at PSU.

Penn State Scandal Reaches South Park (Video)

south_park

Well, that didn’t take long. You knew America’s most irreverent and possibly most polarizing satirists were going to weigh in on the Penn State scandal much sooner rather than later.

I recommend that you watch the rerun of last night’s episode of South Park on Comedy Central! Check your digital listings guide and DVR it! It was hilarious; not just because of the Penn State jokes, but the white trash jokes- which were much funnier actually.

It’s sad that most of the people I know don’t use the term “white trash” anymore. Maybe they’re more PC than I am; maybe they’re like an alarmingly high number of people in this country- trying to emulate “Jersey Shore” and therefore become white trash themselves, but whatever the reason, the term is dying.

SO GLAD to see South Park reviving it. See Chris Rock’s bit on the dwindling of the N word/how he likes to still use the word in spite of that, and you’ll understand why I cling to using the term “white trash,” because I’m surrounded by it almost everywhere I go.

Back to PSU and South Park, watch a snippet after the jump.

Penn St. Scandal Link Bank 11-16-11: Sandusky, McQueary, JoePa

penn st. logo

As you no doubt heard, Mike McQueary, who might have possible whistle-blower status in the Penn St. scandal, is in a secure location. This is because he’s received death threats for so-called “ratting out” Joe Paterno; which reminds us how backwards and unthinking so many people are. Anyways, it surfaced yesterday that McQueary claims he did go to the police, contradicting earlier reports from the grand jusry testimony.

CBS had an exclusive with him, and it bombed massively.

Penn St. Scandal: Guest Post By the Wisconsin Attorney General

penn st logo

The Penn State pedophile scandal has dominating the headlines for the past week, and it should. This is much more than the biggest story in college football or even sports history. Joe Paterno could be one of the biggest falls from grace in American history. Therefore, the media overkill is justified, and it’s just getting warmed up.

That said I am honored, no make that HONORED to have received message from the office of the Attorney General in the great state of Wisconsin, and I present to you this guest post, directly from Madison, WI and Att. Gen. J.B. Van Hollen

Second Mile President Steps Down, Paterno Name Removed from Big 10 Trophy

joepa

The Second Mile, the charity at the center of the child sex-abuse charges against former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is obviously in major turmoil right now. And also in transition.

Today the current president resigned, saying he hoped his leave would help restore faith in their mission. The charity also announced it had hired Philadelphia’s longtime district attorney as its new general counsel.

Penn State Loses First Game of Post-Paterno Era 17-14

Given what went on this past week in State College, many people worried about what might happen today in Penn State versus Nebraska. Some thought the game shouldn’t even be played; out of both respect to Jerry Sandusky’s victims and fear of public safety.

There was a bomb threat; but luckily nothing was found and there have been no major injuries reported. Thus far, no other serious incidents have made public knowledge, so it’s safe to say the game went off much better than expected.

On to actual college football. The game began with both teams joining at midfield for a pre-game prayer.

#12 Penn State Nittany Lions #19 Nebraska Cornhuskers: Brutally Honest Game Preview

Darren Rovell's photo Penn State's logo today (via @Quickish, @n2st)

Penn State news that actually focuses on college football? Hhmm, yeah, we’ll try.

It’s hard to think about football when you have a campus in mutiny due to the firing of one of the game’s biggest icons. And that firing was justified because of the university’s looking the other way while a defensive coordinator raped children.

It’s also harder to preview this game when Penn State cancelled their weekly press conference. But alas, we will talk about football. It’s SAD and PATHETIC that PSU is “carrying the flag” for the Big Ten conference. They’re the highest ranked team, the only team with just one-loss and the only squad undefeated in conference play.

So, until further notice they are the Big Ten’s (sigh) “best team.”

Penn State Campus Now Rioting, Demonstrating (Photos)

In a span of five days, we’ve seen the Penn State Nittany Lions sex scandal go from breaking news story, to earth-shattering scandal to surreal,”take a moment to remember where you are” type of media circus.

And it’s perfectly understandable, since new information breaks every hour, and the situation gets darker, weirder, sadder and indicative of the worst elements in human nature every time news breaks.

Now the students in University Park have taken to the streets, yes they are demonstrating, rioting. Yes rallying and taking grassroots political action supporting Joe Paterno. Now that JoePa has been fired, that town is going to burn.

Here are some photos:

JOE PATERNO FIRED! Tom Bradley Named Penn St Interim Coach

The Penn State University board of trustees had an emergency meeting tonight and decided to dismiss Joe Paterno as head college football coach at Penn State University. I’m sure you know why.

So it appears he will not go out at the end of the season, as he preferred to do. Defensive Coordinator Tom Bradley has been promoted to interim head coach; and he will lead the team Saturday versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
