Illini, Wolverines take Home Big 10 POW Awards. No Surprise!


On Saturday, the Illini and Wolverines played a college football game that was to offense what Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is to hair-sprayed “poofs.” The two squads also played defense in the same manner that the “Jersey Shore” promotes literacy.

Anyways, the game was an instant triple overtime classic in which the two football teams combined to score more points than in eight of their last nine college basketball meetings. For one Saturday, the Big Ten became the WAC.

Michigan 67, Illinois 65: Instant Classic Despite Lack of Defense

When the Illini and the Wolverines got together to play college basketball in February, the score was Illinois 51, Michigan 44. When they met to play college football Saturday, the score was UM 67, UI 65.

It reminded me of the 2009 Illini basketball 38-33 loss to home state. Because you looked at the box score, and you’re like “is that a misprint?” If this Big Ten conference game had any similar precedent, it’s the 2000 meeting between the #12 Wolverines and #21 Northwestern Wildcats. NU won that one 54-52 at Ryan Field.

I guess my prediction was a bit off!
