Memphis Grizzlies must upgrade depth this off-season

By signing their key players to contract extensions the past couple of years, the Memphis Grizzlies have a solid starting five.  However, their bench production has been average at best which has held them back a bit.  The Griz need to upgrade the talent behind their starters this off-season, but that will be difficult to do since the team has very little cap flexibility in free agency.

Applying the Allan Houston Rule to the NBA Southwest Division Teams in 2011

allan houston

One of the topics expected to be discussed during the NBA Lockout is the possible revival of The Allan Houston Rule.  When a new CBA was agreed upon in 2005, it allowed NBA teams a one time opportunity to waive a player and not have his contract count against the luxury tax teams have to pay if their team salary exceeds a pre-determined amount set by the league.  The released player becomes a free agent but his salary still gets paid and counts against his former team’s salary cap.  Ironically enough, Allan Houston was not a victim of The Allan Houston.  The Knicks instead decided to waive Jerome Williams.

Are the Grizzlies Ready to Take the Next Step?

Rudy Gay Grizzlies

What Should the Grizzlies Do with Rudy Gay?

Rudy Gay Grizzlies

I still find it baffling that the Memphis Grizzlies acquired Zach Randolph and used the second pick in the 2009 NBA Draft on a player who spent some time in the D-League, yet still improved by sixteen games nearly finishing at the five-hundred mark.  If you can explain to me how that happened, I’d also like to know your take on who killed JFK and what really happened during the six seasons of Lost.  Now the surprising Griz might have to make major decision on whether or not to break the bank on restricted free agent Rudy Gay.
