“From each one according to his ability. To each one according to his need,” is one of the tenets of socialism. Of course, most Americans don’t know that because most Americans know nothing about socialism, and think it’s the same exact thing as Communism. You can thank Ronald Reagan and his propaganda campaigns against socialized medicine for that.
It’s amazing that so many U.S. citizens mistakenly relate socialism to Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky- if they even know those names. There’s even a socialist in the U.S. Congress, Bernie Sanders of Vermont. And Newsweek published a cover story a few years ago entitled “We are socialists now.”
And former Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jason Babin sees the socialist streak in his former team.
Follow paulmbanksWith the NFL regular season rapidly approaching, let’s take a look at the intriguing NFC East. Featuring the reigning Super Bowl champions (Giants), the former “Dream Team” turned “dynasty in the making” (Eagles), the league’s most exciting rookie (Robert Griffin III), and America’s team (you know who that is), this division might just prove to be the wildest in the NFL.
Giants: Remember the 2008 team that started 11-1 after winning Super Bowl XLI? This squad could be similar, with a confident defending champion facing a mild early schedule. They addressed two big depth needs at RB and WR with their first two draft picks (David Wilson and Reuben Randle), while third-rounder CB Jayron Hosley has made some noise in the preseason. Just ask Mark Sanchez.

Follow paulmbanksFootball fans, you’re Christmas is right around the corner. Preseason games have already started and the regular season is right around the corner. Nearly as important, the fantasy football season is finally here! In the coming weeks, we will prepare you ready for the upcoming fantasy season by breaking every position. First up, we’ll rank the top the top defense & special team units.
Follow paulmbanksIf Deion Branch and Josh McDaniels can come back into the fold, there’s no reason Asante Samuel can’t do the same. This year’s Wes Welker franchise tag situation is similar to how it played out when the New England Patriots slapped the tag on Branch and Samuel in the past. If Welker, wants to hold out, and leave- fine.
He’ll soon see the grass was greener where he was. Cornerback Asante Samuel needs to as well. Like the Philadelphia Inquirer reported, the Eagles are pretty desperate to sell

Follow paulmbanksThe Indianapolis Colts announced the firing of head coach Jim Caldwell yesterday in light of a 2-14 record, minus the talents of Peyton Manning, who has been out all season due to neck surgery. While the Colts’ 2011 season is just plain sad, the firing of Caldwell makes this football fan wonder (yet again) why other head coaches such as the Philadelphia Eagles’ Andy Reid keeps his job after not just one, but many suck-tacular seasons.

Follow paulmbanksMike Vick didn’t make any friends this week. The article the cover references is this article, with quotes from a bunch of Giants about how they believed their hits on Vick were perfectly clean. Of course they do.
Michael Vick (or is Mike Vick I don’t know) on Sunday voiced that he had some issues with how officials called the Philadelphia Eagles loss to the Ne wYork Giants on Sunday. He wondered aloud publicly why hits on him don’t draw the same 15-yard penalties they draw when administered to other quarterbacks.
He even did the “hey, I’m not complaining” even though he was doing nothing but complaining bit, which of course is going to come across as whining.
Follow paulmbanksMike Vick’s post prison NFL story is certainly a memorable one. What he’s done with his career (and some would say his life) after incarceration is certainly movie material. Vick is finding his groove on the field, cutting his braids off, staying out of trouble. Vick recently gave a candid interview to GQ magazine where he credits the Philadelphia Eagles with making him a much better quarterback, but said he initially thought the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills were better options.

Follow paulmbanksIt’s no secret that 99/100 songs written specifically about sports teams SUCK. When they’re written for explicitly for the team, it’s a double whammy- crude, cold exploitative marketing. They’re usually obvious attempts by mediocre or worse musicians to capitalize on brief periods of civic pride. What follows are some of the worst of the worst. And sadly, eight slots is not enough. I know I left quite a few out.

Peyton Manning may miss the start of training camp. Is it due to his off-season knee surgery or contract negotiations? Will QB Cam Newton be passing to Greg Olsen on opening day? Vincent Jackson is returning to the Chargers and why might the Eagles have one of the better defenses in the NFL this season?
The Sportsbank’s most popular new addition this year has you covered on the latest whirlwind movement in the NFL.
