OUCH! Cubs trade Darwin Barney for player to be named


The Chicago Cubs today traded infielder Darwin Barney and a cash consideration to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later. OUCH BABE! Remember when he was relevant? When he was possibly considered “a piece” in “the rebuild?” At least defensively, he was thought to be something, Now this is his fate.  

 The one AAA leader hits once gave Cubs fans such high hopes.

The Chicago Cubs Brass is on the California Grass … Golf Grass!!

A bunch of the boys are whoopin’ it up in the desert made famous by Frank and his friends. A rollicking happy place where the scotch flows and the golf courses never end. A land of breathtaking mornings and gorgeous nights. A world where the stars shine brighter than spotlights.

And finally, and most impactful for many … a town where the women are so eager because most of the other men are “gay, gray or leaving on Tuesday.”

Yes, welcome to the California desert. It’s nice to be there.

Oh, wait. They went to Palm Springs to talk about baseball. Riiiigggghhhhttt.

Cubs Darwin Barney Naturally Selected NL Rookie of the Month


Chicago Cubs infielder Darwin Barney was voted the National League Rookie of the Month for April.

Barney hit .326 during the month with one home run and 14 RBI, which ranked second among Major League rookies. The 25-year-old collected four doubles, two triples, 15 runs scored and one stolen base to go along with a .351 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage. Before being called up last summer, Barney was the AAA leader in hits.

The Oregon State product was the Cubs fourth round pick in the 2007 Draft (you could say Darwin was “naturally selected”, and he recorded 11 multi-hit games during April, including one three-hit game on April 23rd against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field.

Rotator Cuffs and Forearms Seriously Frustrating to Cubs Fans

With the off day yesterday, the DL debacle and Dempster’s destruction, it is time to just get it all out and rant like nuts about all things Chicago Cubs.

So, let’s get it on …

Dempster does not look good. In fact, he looks bad.

• I feel like with need a real-life version of ESPN’s fantasy baseball commercial, where Quade sits down with Marmol, Wood and Marshall and lets them know that they might pitch in 150 games each.

• That was just horrific on Tuesday watching the Shark and Mateo completely botch that game. Thankfully, the Cubs still won, but it was just plain ugly.

Cubs promote AAA hits leader Darwin Barney to parent club


Today, the Chicago Cubs called up infielder Darwin Barney from Triple-A Iowa. He will wear uniform number 15 and be available for this afternoon’s game in San Francisco .

A 2010 Pacific Coast League All-Star, Barney joins the Cubs leading all of Triple-A with 142 hits this season.  Overall, he’s hitting .297 (142-for-478) with 24 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 71 runs scored, 49 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 113 games for Iowa in 2010.

Barney is pretty consistent when you look at his splits  vs. right-handed pitching (.302) and southpaws (.287).  He has played 111 games at that shortstop and two at second base this season.
