Chicago Cubs make More Spring Training Roster Cuts

The Chicago Cubs made some roster cuts today, trimming the group from 40 to 36 players. Right-handed pitcher Justin Berg and left-handed pitcher Scott Maine were optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Two non-roster invitees with a wealth of major league experience have also been assigned to minor league camp.

Every Cubs Spring Training Game will be Broadcasted, 1st Time Ever

For the first time ever, nearly every Chicago Cubs spring training game will be available to Cubs fans via television, radio or internet radio broadcast as the club today announced its 2011 spring training broadcast schedule.

The 2011 broadcast schedule will feature eight games televised by Cubs broadcast partners (six by WGN and two by Comcast SportsNet), 11 on the WGN Cubs radio network and 19 via internet radio broadcast on www.cubs.com. Fans will be able to access the Cubs Webcasts on Cubs.com and MLB.com for free by registering for a log-in account with the website.

Cubs List, Announce 21 Non-Roster MLB Spring Training Invites

The Chicago Cubs have invited 21 non-roster players to major league spring training, which begins Sunday, February 13 when pitchers and catchers are invited to report in Mesa , Ariz. Their first workout will take place on Monday, February 14. Position players report to camp Friday, February 18 with the team’s first full workout Saturday, February 19.

Today, the Cubs announced they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Braden Looper and infielder Augie Ojeda on minor league contracts with invites to major league spring training.

Some of the first games of the Spring Training season start this Thursday and The SportsBank.net will be in Arizona, catching some Cactus League action!

Here’s the Cubs Non-Roster Invite List

The Chicago Cubs today announced the club has invited 19 non-roster players to Major League Spring Training, which begins Wednesday, February 17 when pitchers and catchers are invited to report in Mesa, Ariz.  Their first workout will take place on Thursday, February 18.

Position players report to camp Monday, February 22 with the team’s first full workout Tuesday, February 23.

Overall, 12 of the 19 invitees are homegrown players either drafted or originally signed by the Cubs
