Cleveland Cavs must stick to the script this off-season

The Cleveland Cavs have already brought back a very familiar face this off-season.  Nope, not LeBron James.  Even better, Mike Brown has returned to become head coach!  (Crickets)

Now in year three of the post-LeBron rebuilding effort, the Cleveland Cavs front office must stick to the script of the past few summers; build through the draft and avoid making dumb moves via free agency or trade that will ruin their cap space.

All things considered, there should actually be optimism regarding the Cleveland CavaliersKyrie Irving appears to be the face of the franchise that Cavs fans hoped they were getting with the top overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.  With four of the top 34 picks in the 2012 NBA Draft and a ton of cap space, management should look to build around Irving this off-season.

Kyrie Irving had to clarify remarks he made Monday night on Mike Krzyzewski’s future with the U.S. Olympic basketball program. The Cavaliers franchise point guard and #1 pick in the #NBA draft this past June, had to back off earlier made comments by saying he spoke prematurely in saying Krzyzewski would coach the 2016 U.S. Olympic team.

“I spoke to Coach K (and) he did tell me he was coaching, but I prematurely spoke on that,” said Irving, who played at Duke last season. “But I know he’s going to be part of USA Basketball. That’s the most important thing. That’s what made my decision easier.” He’s going to be part of the USA staff anyway whether he’s coaching or not. Cavaliers Kyrie Irving has decent vocal chops (video)

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving has better vocal chords than you might think. Check out the Cavs’ special Valentine’s Day music video message to their fans. Cavaliers Owner Sends Whiny Email to NBA Over CP3 Lakers Trade

CLEVELAND-CAVALIERS-LOGO

You recall Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert from the night of Lebron James’ “The Decison” correct? The man who made his fortune by exploiting poor people and giving out house loans to the homeless (CEO of Quicken Loans) embarrassed himself that evening with an extremely bitter letter to LBJ.

The comic sans font he used put the unintentional comedy of the situation off the charts. Gilbert is back with another too whiny for a powerful billionaire missive.

Gilbert called the New Orleans Hornets’ now nullified trade of Chris Paul to the L.A. Lakers a “travesty,” and urged NBA commissioner David Stern to let the league’s 29 owners vote on it. an

NBA Draft Lottery was meant to be for the Cavs

Cavs win 1st overall pick in 2011 NBA Draft

It was meant to be; bookends on the most controversial free agency in sports history.

8 years ago, LeBron James was the best available player in an insanely stacked draft class that included James’ now-teammates Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, as well as Carmelo Anthony. While this year’s draft class is nowhere near as valuable, the Cavs, seeking their first number one overall pick since 2003, entered the lottery hoping to reverse the curse that descended on Quicken Loans Arena last July.

Cleveland Cavaliers Knock off the Los Angeles Lakers? Yes, Really

CLEVELAND-CAVALIERS-LOGO

The last time the Cleveland Cavaliers played the Los Angeles Lakers, they were nearly doubled up on the scoreboard. When I saw the 112-57 final following that first meeting, I thought it was a mistake. I know the Cavs are bad, but how on Earth do you lose an NBA game by 55 points?

So knowing what happened in the last meeting, you would say heading into last night’s match up between the two teams that the probability of the Cavs pulling the upset was about as likely as Congress agreeing on healthcare.

So then a healthcare solution everyone agrees on is forthcoming, right? Not likely, but the Cavaliers did achieve the unthinkable Wednesday night-they beat the mighty Lakers-and that’s NOT a misprint.
