Mrs. Irrelevant? Last pick in NFL Draft, Colts Chandler Harnish gets creepy invitation (video)

I’m sure NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish never dreamed that “perks” like these would come with his new job. The greatest signal called in Huskies college football history became the last guy picked in our nation’s biggest gym class on Saturday when he went #253 overall in the 7th round to the Indianapolis Colts.

And that status is exactly why he has a special place in the heart of YouTube user Brianne, who straddles the line between fun crazy and dangerous crazy. Sexy crazy and felonious crazy. And that’s not all she wants to straddle.

NIU QB Chandler Harnish: 2012 NFL Draft MR. IRRELEVANT

(Update: the Indianapolis Colts have selected NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish with the final pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. So the Colts bookend the draft, with QBs)

Northern Illinois University is kind of known as the mid-major version of “Tailback U.” The DeKalb, IL institution has produced some of the most electric runners (LeShon Johnson, Michael Turner, Garrett Wolfe and Chad Spann) in not just the MAC, but all of college football.

The Huskies are known for tailbacks, not quarterbacks. However, they might have the best in school history in Chandler Harnish, who like the halfbacks mentioned above, is great at running the ball.

NIU Huskies Win MAC Title; Furious Comeback in Championship Game

#7/#8 Wisconsin vs. Northern Illinois (Soldier Field Showdown II): Game Preview

This weekend, the #7/#8 Wisconsin Badgers (2-0) will play their first game of the season away from Camp Randall Stadium in the Soldier Field Showdown II versus the Northern Illinois Huskies (1-1). The first Soldier Field Showdown involved the Iowa Hawkeyes matching up with NIU in 2007 (won by Iowa 16-3).

Saturday’s match-up with the Huskies has a lot of interesting drama as first-year Huskies Coach, Dave Doeren, is the former UW Defensive Coordinator. Moreover, four of the five last match-ups between these two teams has been decided by eight points or less.

College Football 77 in 77: #74 NIU Huskies

NORTHERN-ILLINOIS

From a mid-major standpoint, Northern Illinois University has become “Running Back U.” (Leshon Johnson, Garret Wolfe, Michael “the Burner” Turner, Chad Spann). Sure, only Michael Turner is the only one from that group to do anything in the NFL, but these rushers all dominated the collegiate level.

NIU will look to keep that running game going in spades this season, with mobile QB Chandler Harnish (although he’ll likely need to make more plays with his arm than he did in 2010, the Huskies were 85th in passing last year) with Jasmin Hopkins and Jamal Woble filling in for Spann.

It’s also a regime change campaign, as Jerry Kill parlayed his record setting 2010 (the Huskies won 11 for the first time ever in ’10) into a new gig leading the Minnesota Golden Gophers. It’s funny that I rate his old team higher than his new one, even though going from Dekalb to the Twin Cities, the MAC to the Big Ten, is a huge step up.
