Will the Houston Rockets be stronger next season?

houston-rockets-dwight-howard

The Houston Rockets tried hard to land Carmelo Anthony this summer. And when they failed to do so, they turned their interest towards Chris Bosh. They didn’t manage to land Miami’s superstar either and on top of that, they saw the Dallas Mavericks “stealing” Chandler Parsons from them. Houston acted quickly and brought in Trevor Ariza to replace Parsons and now, the Rockets are looking to re-enter a championship contending course. But will Houston be stronger or weaker in comparison to the 2013 – 2014 season? [Read more…]

Rick Telander Tied Chicago Violence To NBA Free Agency For Some Reason

telander-chicago-flag

He did it.

It wasn’t easy.

It took a lot of pandering, false parallels, unfair doling out of responsibilities, and a pinch of dog whistle, but Rick Telander managed to connect this city’s position in NBA free agency to the plague of gun violence here. It’s brilliant in its absurdity, magnificent in how dually counterproductive it is to both the topic of sports contracts and to people being murdered en masse.

Can the 2014 NBA draft be better than the 2003 NBA draft?

chris-bosh--indiana-pacers

As the 2014 NBA draft approaches, teams are lining up to move up in the draft and/or add additional first-round picks, as this year’s crop of players looks to possibly be the strongest ever. This year’s NBA draft has drawn many comparisons to the last NBA “superdraft,” which took place in the summer of 2003.

Even the most casual NBA fan is familiar with the 2003 NBA draft class – LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade were the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th overall picks, and between them they have a combined:

Phil-Jackson-NY-Knicks

There is no denying that the New York Knicks are into a very bad situation at the moment, one of the toughest ones they have been in since Carmelo Anthony came on-board . This was the first season in the Melo era that the team didn’t make it to the postseason and on top of that, their megastar forward is set to hit the free agency in a little more than one month from now.

However, the arrival of Phil Jackson, the new President of the team, has brought hope to New York. Now the team is ready to make all the corrective moves needed in order to improve next season. [Read more…]

Paul George plays like an All-Star for Indiana Pacers against East elite

Indiana-Pacers

We’ve been hearing since Paul George’s rookie season in 2010-11 that he could be the Indiana Pacers’ No. 1 guy and even a NBA-wide star.

It appears George is approaching — or already has approached — that status.

With stellar performances in back-to-back wins against the East’s first- and second-place teams, the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks (albeit without Carmelo Anthony), George is making the basketball world take notice of his marked improvement as a game changer on both offensive and defensive ends of the floor. New York Knicks have enough pieces to contend in Eastern Conference

carmelo anthony amare stoudemire

The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders.  There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.

The resurrection of the New York Knicks hasn’t been an as accelerated a process as management would have hoped.  They invested a ton of money in signing a big three of their own but haven’t been able to get the job done on their own just yet.  That’s why the Knicks added some veteran pieces this off-season that should help them contending in the Eastern Conference.

Paying a Price for Trading a Superstar

Orlando Magic

There is no denying that Dwight Howard is a superstar and superstars only come around every so often. Teams are rarely willing to trade their superstar unless it’s for another superstar or a group of solid players and draft picks. That being said, I have no words for what took place last night.  [Read more…]

The Black Mamba isn’t Australia’s native snake, but the Australian national basketball team was struck not once, twice, or three but four times in a matter of a minute. Perhaps the fourth time proved to be the most lethal strike, as it helped Team USA extend its lead to 105-80 with 4:46 left in the fourth quarter. [Read more…]

Carmelo Anthony sets USA’s scoring record in impressive rout

Team USA's Carmelo Anthony

Well, that was quite the game yesterday, wasn’t it? Team USA put on a shooting display that I, personally, have never seen been before and I have watched a lot of basketball. Starting with Carmelo Anthony and stopping with Anthony Davis, Team USA showed the world why they are the best.
