Marquette should be even better in 2013-2014

Vander Blue

While the disappointment of laying an egg in the Elite 8 against Syracuse still lingers, the future remains extremely bright for a Marquette program coming off their third straight trip to the Sweet 16.  Assuming Buzz Williams returns for his sixth season and the incoming recruiting class remains in tact, the Golden Eagles should be even better in 2013-14.

99 in 99: #33 Marquette Golden Eagles

Marquette basketball

I realize I might be homering a tad bit by placing Marquette this high especially when my college hoops man-crush Jay Bilas picked them to finish 10th in the Big East.  Low outside expectations are nothing new to a Golden Eagle team that has not finished lower than 5th place in the Big East since entering the conference in 2005-2006.  So on second thought, I think 33rd is a perfect pre-season fit for MU.

Be warned; this edition of our “99 in 99” college basketball preview series is not like the others.  It is wordy, nerdy, and more in-depth than the others.  But it is my team… so deal with it.  Click here if you missed teams #34-#99.

Buzz Williams should be Big East Coach of the Year

By: David Kay

It is hard to argue against Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim for not only Big East Coach of the Year, but also National Coach of the Year.  Syracuse is the #1 ranked team in the country after not even being included in the pre-season Top 25 due to the losses of starters Jonny Flynn, Eric Devendorf, and Paul Harris.  This may sound like pure homering, but Buzz Williams deserves to be the Big East Coach of the Year.
