Brooklyn Nets: can they compete for a championship next season?

Nets Beyonce JayZ

It was almost a year ago when the Brooklyn Nets agreed on the blockbuster deal of 2013 with the Boston Celtics. The Nets acquired Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce while at the same time shipping to Boston a bunch of non–factor players.

Brooklyn’s payroll skyrocketed and in fact, the Nets became the most expensive team in the NBA and the only one above the $100 million mark. All these deeds had one and only purpose – the conquest of the championship. Now, after a total failure to even seriously contend for the Larry O’Brien trophy, the Brooklyn Nets are looking towards their future with uncertainty.

So can this team really compete for the championship next season? Or has the window closed? [Read more…]

Maybe this obese OKC Thunder fan was worried about getting some Kim Kardashian germs from touching Brooklyn Nets forward Kris Humphries? He did have that “marriage” to her which lasted shorter than the NFL lockout. Of course, it doesn’t stop Kanye West from touching her.

Nets Deron Williams: more diva than superstar these days?

Deron-Williams

With the Brooklyn Nets firing their head coach Avery Johnson yesterday, point guard Deron Williams saw his reputation as a coach killer increase. First there was Williams’ influence forcing legendary leader Jerry Sloan into retirement, and now the Johnson situation. Williams now seems like a NBA version of Steve Buscemi’s character in “Billy Madison” who had a “people to kill” list. Except for coaches.

Johnson was Coach of the month in October and November, yet canned in December. A 10-4 start raised expectations (which were already sky high to begin with due to the new arena, new uniforms and a lot of money spent on free agency), then Brook Lopez got hurt and the losing began, turning them into a .500 team.

And Deron likely complained about the play-calling, and had input into this outcome, even though the real decision came from the rich Russian upstairs. But is Deron still the star he once was? And is he worth it for teams to bend over backwards for?

Brooklyn Nets big spending should mean big turnaround

brooklyn nets logo

The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders.  There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.

With a move across the Hudson, new arena and logo, and remade roster; the now Brooklyn Nets’ much anticipated makeover is complete.  With all the money they spent this off-season, the team will undoubtedly be one of the most improved teams in the NBA but will it be enough for the franchise to compete for the Eastern Conference title?

Paying a Price for Trading a Superstar

Orlando Magic

There is no denying that Dwight Howard is a superstar and superstars only come around every so often. Teams are rarely willing to trade their superstar unless it’s for another superstar or a group of solid players and draft picks. That being said, I have no words for what took place last night.  [Read more…]

Where Dwight Howard SHOULD Go

From the information I have gathered it sounds like the Orlando Magic is going to trade Dwight Howard, their centerpiece, to the Brooklyn Nets. But before that happens, I have a message for the Magic organization.  [Read more…]

Nets re-sign PG Deron Williams to 5-year, $98.8 million deal

Deron Williams

As the grizzly voiced manager in Major League once stated, “It’s starting to come together, Pepper.”  The Nets gambles of acquiring Gerald Wallace, Joe Johnson, and Williams in the past 17 months have certainly paid of as Brooklyn now has it’s own semi-Big 3.
