Dennis Erickson leaves Arizona State Disgraced, ASU Destroyed by Boise

Boise State University entered the Maaco Bowl against the Arizona State Sun Devils as the number seven team in the BCS rankings. Yet, they were left out of a BCS game once again this season after suffering an earlier loss to the TCU Horned Frogs.

Don’t worry; this is not another column about how flawed the system is. I will not lobby here for a playoff. I will outline why bowl coaches should never come into the contest in a lame duck situation. I understand why this takes place. It is impossible for a team to hire a coach after the regular season and have him take over with his entire staff prior to the postseason.

Big East Football Realignment HURTING Big East Basketball

At the Chicago college basketball media day, DePaul coach Oliver Purnell made a joke at the podium about announcing a new additions to a new super-conference that was planning on adding more teams in the near future.

We in the media appreciated his jab at the chaotic landscape that is conference realignment/expansion. And again at the DePaul media luncheon, Purnell was asked about the current game of musical chairs being played. And the Big East is feeling the effects harder than anyone else.

“These are crazy times, it’s happened before it’s just happening very quickly, and now it seems there’s a race,” Purnell said.

Big East Invites Boise State, Navy and Air Force Football to Join

I guess the Boise State Broncos are going to follow the TCU Horned Frogs around the carousel of college football expansion/realignment. You could say they’ll scoop up their “sloppy seconds.”

Today the Big East Conference invited Boise State, Navy and Air Force for football only and SMU, Houston and Central Florida for all sports, a source with knowledge of the situation told The AP.

#7 Boise State Broncos: College Football 77 in 77

boise state

This is the year. It has to be. To quote Elvis Presely “It’s now or Never.” (by the way, anyone notice that song is a blatant rip off of “O Solo Mio” just like “My Country Tis of Thee” is a rip off of “God Save the Queen) Anyways, the Boise State Broncos, the mid-major darlings of college football, will be fielding a team dominated by seniors and seven returning starters on each side of the ball.

Their offensive backfield and defensive front seven are all seniors, and they’re names you should get to know. Some of the them will be playing on the next level. With the stronger schedule, and a jump from the WAC to Mountain West, this is the year for BSU to reach the title game. Granted the MWC isn’t a power six, auto-qualifyer conference, and the TCU Horned Frogs are bailing on it for the Big East next year, but it’s a step in the right direction. And it’s a stepping stone, if Chris Petersen (61-5 in Boise) keeps doing what he’s doing; building on what Dan Hawkins did, Boise will get into a big time league soon enough.

This year though, they could reach the title game without it; possibly.

Boise St. leaves WAC for Mountain West

boise state

That conference was wack! straight up WAC. That’s what Boise St. was thinking, as they bolted today, opting to join the Mountain West conference. It’s a step up for a program that was SHAFTED BIG TIME by BCS BS last season. They could be a top 5 team when the preseason rankings come out.

They aren’t going to be known first and foremost for the blue home field much longer.
