Bryson Scott, Basil Smotherman and Kendall Stephens comprise a class that is ranked as the 23rd-best in the nation by both Rivals.com and Scout.com.

Purdue coach Matt Painter throwing out first ball at White Sox game

Purdue college basketball coach Matt Painter will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday night before the Chicago White Sox take on the Toronto Blue Jays.

The game is set for 7:10 p.m. CDT.

This won’t be as exciting as the Snoop Doggy Dogg first pitch, but maybe Painter will “Tebow” after it, like Snoop did. Ok, probably not. [Read more…]

Michigan Looks to Continue Home Dominance against Purdue

michigan-wolverines

One month ago, Michigan was still looking for its first conference road win of the season. The Wolverines had just lost by two at Arkansas, and a tough road trip to West Lafayette was just three days away.

The Maize and Blue played another two-point game against the Boilermakers, but this time they came out on top. Since that win at Mackey Arena, Michigan’s only losses have come at Ohio State and at Michigan State—two teams that will be vying for one seeds on selection Sunday.

Their impressive run culminated with an overtime win at Northwestern Tuesday night, which pushed the Wolverines’ conference record to 11-4. They are now tied with the Buckeyes for second place, just a game back of the Spartans.

Does the Purdue Boilermakers 7-1 Start Surprise You?

purdue-basketball

As the Big Ten beat the ACC for the third straight time in the annual challenge, we learned the league could be stronger than we actually thought. Or at least top to bottom the depth/talent of the league is better than we expected.

Or the ACC is just really down; as the Midwest beat the Atlantic Coast by it’s most comfortable margin ever. I did not see that coming at all; mostly because this is the year the league loses a star-studded senior class that led the league since the time they were sophomores. The Purdue Boilermakers are the perfect microcosm of that statement.

They leaned very heavily on seniors E’Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson who are now both with the Boston Celtics in the NBA.

This year, and probably next, are proverbial rebuilding seasons in West Lafayette, Ind. After that, Matt Painter and the Purdue Boilermakers are ready to reload. And they’ll do so with one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, as a highly-praised quartet signed National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season.

This group should help the Boilermakers stay nationally relevant in college basketball.

Rapheal Davis, A.J. Hammons, Ronnie Johnson and Jay Simpson comprise a class that is regarded as the 13th-best in the nation by ESPN and 16th by Scout.com.

Mavericks Brian Cardinal Gets Internship with Purdue Basketball

Member of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks and former Boilermakers star Brian Cardinal joined the Purdue athletics staff as an athletics administration intern. Obviously, this won’t be your typical type of college internship, as it involves a multi-millionaire who has some time on his hands with the NBA lockout.

Cardinal’s internship will include roles with the John Purdue Club and Purdue’s Wooden Leadership Institute, as well as mentoring student-athletes and non-coaching day-to-day activities in various areas around the department.

Purdue Basketball Exhibition Game Doubling as Halloween Costume Night

charger girls

The first Purdue Boilermakers exhibition game of the 2011-12 college basketball season is set for the day after Halloween. Therefore, the athletic department is encouraging hoops fans to retain Halloween costumes for one more day and wear them to Mackey Arena on November 1st, when the Boilermakers take on Northern State.

I predict that when the crowd shows up you’ll think “wow I didn’t know Purdue had such a large naughty nursing school within the university.”

Can The Purdue Boilermakers Salvage a #3 Seed?

The Purdue Boilermakers were dealt a serious blow on Friday Night when they were quite simply embarrassed by Michigan State in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. This comes directly after losing in Iowa to close out the regular season.

These two steps in the wrong direction could come back to hurt the Boilermakers come Sunday when the committee considers where to draw the line between the 2, 3 and 4 seeds.
