Notre Dame not Joining the Big 12

Contrary to multiple “reports,” which were proven false (and as they were proven false, I will not dignify the source of these reports with neither a link nor a mention. Ok, it was Rivals.com Texas Longhorns site Orangebloods) Notre Dame is NOT JOINING THE BIG 12.

I asked Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick at the BCS meetings in Chicago about the Big 12 affiliation report:

“We have done nothing to cause that to happen, no meetings, no anything, I don’t know the source of that or why it occurred. It is not based on any discussion, any meeting we have done,” he responded.

West Virginia to Replace Missouri in Big 12

The carousel keeps moving in college football conference expansion and relocation. Today it leaked that the West Virginia Mountaineers have been approved to replace Missouri Tigers in the Big 12 conference. The conference board of directors approved the move to take place once the Mizzou move to the SEC is complete.

WVU leaving the Big East obviously leaves an already very weak football conference to become even weaker. The Big East is already reeling from the loss of TCU, Syracuse and UConn. The Mountaineers over the Tigers probably means a push in football, but an upgrade in college basketball.

#7 Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. #8 Texas A&M Aggies: Brutally Honest Game Preview

Get ready for a Pac-12 vs. SEC Challenge! Oh wait, not yet.

In a game that could affect both the conference and national title races, Oklahoma State (3-0) will travel to Texas A&M (2-0) Saturday. Brandon Weeden, the nation’s leading passer with 384.7 yards per game, has helped the Cowboys offense collect 157 points and average 601 yards per game, a mark that ranks second in the country. Leading the Aggies, however, Ryan Tannehill holds a 72.3 completion percentage and has yet to be sacked behind the A&M line.

For the first time ever, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M will meet with both teams ranking in the Associated Press top 10. The Aggies lead the series, winning 17 of the previous 28 meetings, but the Cowboys took the 2010 game with a 38-35 thriller in Stillwater, Okla.

State of Oklahoma Football Reaches Zenith; Sooners & Cowboys Rollin

“Texas forever?” Actually, it’s not the Lone Star State, but the smaller border state to the north that is currently on top of the college football world right now. The Sooner state has never seen this much of a boomtown for winning football as they do right now.

Both the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys are winning big, and doing it with powerful, exciting aerial attacks. Oklahoma is a tiny state, with one professional sports franchise (Thunder from the NBA) and only three big name college sports teams. (if you count OSU and Tulsa as big names).

It’s safe to say this the first time both schools have been ranked in the top 7. Sooners #1, Ok. St. #7 and their rivalry bedlam this year will undoubtedly be the biggest in the series history.

#1 Oklahoma Sooners vs. #5 Florida State Seminoles: Brutally Honest Game Preview

With top-ranked Oklahoma visiting fifth-ranked Florida State, we have our first de facto in season playoff game. Since college football doesn’t have a playoff system, and really a joke of a postseason when you think about it, the regular season becomes single elimination playoffs. Because you need to be undefeated to even have a chance to play for a national title.

The national spotlight will shine on Tallahassee, Fla., Saturday night (7pm CT) as two of the top teams in the nation but heads. EJ Manuel and the No. 5-ranked Florida State Seminoles (2-0) will welcome Landry Jones and the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (1-0) to Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

Manuel and the Seminoles, averaging 509.5 yards of total offense and 48 points per game, have outscored their opponents 96-10 at home thus far. In the Sooners’ season opener, Jones threw for 375 yards on 35 completions while helping Oklahoma to 663 yards of total offense.

Last season, Oklahoma, which holds a 5-1 advantage in the series, took a 47-17 win over Florida State.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State to Join Pac 12?

If you’ve seen the ESPN 30 for 30 “Pony Excess” about the SMU Mustangs and their receiving of the college football death penalty in the 1980s, you might have noticed former NCAA investigator Dan Beebee. In that role, he truly was a great. In his role as a conference commissioner, he is an absolute train wreck. The Big 12 is utterly imploding, and there’s nothing he can do to stop it.

Oklahoma will apply for membership to the Pac-12 before the end of the month, and Oklahoma State is expected to follow suit, a source close to OU’s administration told Orangebloods.com.
