Wisconsin plays beautiful defense and still falls short to Ohio State

The Wisconsin Badgers held Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller to his worst game of the season, but it wasn’t quite enough with the Buckeyes prevailing 21-14 in overtime at Camp Randall.

It was the first time the Badgers (7-4, 4-3) have played in multiple overtime games since the 2000 season and their second straight loss at home.

Mystery Big Ten Coach claims Bo Ryan and the Badgers ‘cheat the game’

In a recent online article from Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated, a Big Ten coach or assistant anonymously claimed that the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team “cheats the game.”

Prior to the juicy details of the article, which attempts to exploit the weaknesses of the power conference’s best teams, Davis warns that some entries may be overly negative or critical.

In the Badgers case, I think it’s safe to say their passage falls somewhere in that overly negative category.

Is it possible that some of these claims are true or does it stem from the frustration the Badgers bring on opponents when playing their hard-nosed style of basketball? [Read more…]

Wisconsin 35, Oregon State 0: Rapid Reaction

The #8/#9 Wisconsin Badgers (2-0) received an unbelievable effort from the defense in a 35-0 shut-out of the Oregon State Beavers (0-2) in week two of the college football season.

With the win, UW recorded it’s first shut-out since the 2009 season when they blanked Purdue 37-0.

Aaron Henry and the Badgers Know Where They Stand on Defense

The Wisconsin Badgers 51-17 thrashing of the UNLV Rebels was full of offensive highlights, particularly from QB Russell Wilson in his Camp Randall debut. While Russell received most of the talk and deservedly so, the team’s defense put forth a rather average performance.

When asked to “grade” his squad’s performance, sophomore linebacker Chris Borland answered “I would give us a C. We didn’t do anything terribly bad, but we can tackle better.”

Senior safety and team captain Aaron Henry concurred and attributed some of the defense’s struggles to an unfamiliar pistol offense run by the opposing team.

Penn State Stuns the Wisconsin Badgers 36-33: Rapid Reaction

Rapid Reaction: Wisconsin 76 Illinois 66

“I think if that was a dance, they would have called it off. You said rhythm; their was absolutely no rhythm. If it was the Gong Show, they would have hooked us all,” said Bo Ryan in regards to the fifty fouls called in Saturday’s game with Illinois.

Despite the foul-fest which was reminiscent of a 1970s TV-show, the #20 Badgers 76-66 win over the #16 Fighting Illini improved their home-record to 10-0 and marked their 13th straight win at the Kohl Center.

Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor combined to score 48 of Wisconsin’s (13-4, 3-2) 76 points and Demetri McCamey led Illinois (13-5, 3-2) with 23 points.

Jereme Richmond Doesn’t Play in Illini Loss at Wisconsin

bruce weber-upset

Despite the presence of two nationally ranked teams, exciting and entertaining college basketball this was not. The game being played in this Big Ten basketball contest was like the slush, snow, ice and stagnant dirty water outside the Kohl Center- slow, hard to navigate, sludge and drudgery. For the Illini at least, there was never any flow.

As unexciting as the first meeting (won by Illinois 69-61) was, this was even more wallowed in mire. The #20 Badgers got revenge on the #16 Illini from their first encounter 76-66, despite shooting just 1-12 from behind the arc in the first half.

Ten reasons why it’s great to be a fan of Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer football

By Jake McCormick

It’s a good week to be a fan of Wisconsin professional and collegiate football.

After a year and a half of consistent scrutiny surrounding Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are headed back to the playoffs and are considered one of the hottest teams in the NFL in a wide open race to the Super Bowl. Throw in all the clichés you want here (A dangerous team no division winner wants to face, peaking at the right time, don’t sleep on the Packers, etc.). [Read more…]
