Purdue University sent the following message: “Shooting reported on campus; Bldg. Electrical Engineering; avoid area; shelter in place; Check www.purdue.edu for updates.” It’s been confirmed that there is one person shot dead, and one suspect in custody. As of now, nothing else regarding the Purdue University shooting has been confirmed. Police on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus are keeping the EE building closed, but allowing everyone else to resume normal activities.
There was a campus lockdown, but its been lifted. Authorities say only the targeted victim is/was in danger from the shooter.
Just a few minutes ago, I received a press release from the Purdue University athletic department that read this: Due to the shooting on the Purdue University campus today, Purdue women’s basketball interviews have been postponed until Wednesday. The men’s team is here in the Chicagoland area as they tip off at Northwestern in just a few hours tonight.
Coincidentally, it was on Northwestern Avenue, across from the engineering mall, where Purdue University police had set up a command post. This according to Purdue University police dispatchers and a report in the Indianapolis Star. It goes without saying that all of us in the Big Ten are Boilers today. “ever grateful, ever true.”
