Ezekiel Elliott is a transcendent level running back prospect. He’s like Adrian Peterson, Cedric Benson or Walter Payton at the time that they were entering the league. The Ohio State Buckeyes tailback owned the Fiesta Bowl. On a field with more NFL prospects than any single college football game of the entire total season, Ezekiel Elliott took over. Then he wowed at the Scouting Combine.
ESPN NFL Draftnik Todd McShay just did a media conference call and the Elliott discussion begins around the 38 minute mark. We’d copy and paste the quotes, but sorry no transcription was provided for this one. McShay provides some interesting insights, and I highly recommend you give it a listen.

As McShay points out, Elliott is a top three, four, five at the worst overall kind of prospect. However, given the decreased value running backs have these days, due to their extremely short shelf lives and the way the NFL keeps re-writing the rule book to over-emphasize the pass, RBs just aren’t worth the price tag these days.
McShay came close to mocking Ezekiel Elliott to the Dallas Cowboys at four, and then again at the Baltimore Ravens at six. Instead he went #10 to the New York Giants. Probably time for me to move him up as well.
