We’ve discussed numerous scenarios when it comes to the Chicago Bears drafting seventh overall in April. We explored the idea of the Bears drafting Landing Collins in this article, but then realized that’s likely too high for Collins to go.
Here we discussed the idea of the Bears drafting Dante Fowler instead at this link. It’s a possibility, he could fit in the new system as the Chicago Bears transition to a new base 3-4.
In this post we analyzed the chances of the Bears trading Cutler and moving up enough to grab Mariota. Most likely though, would be Washington Nose Tackle Danny Shelton. At least for now.
ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay discusses what the Chicago Bears might do with the seventh overall pick:
Most specifically, McShay delved into what the Chicago Bears could do if Shelton was in fact gone. What kind of depth is there in this draft class? What about Eddie Goldman of Florida State? That’s a DT that McShay seems to be very high on; as he brought him up numerous times on this media conference call.
Here’s what we have the Chicago Bears doing in our latest NFL mock draft.
Obviously, this is a special and unique draft for the Chicago Bears as a new regime will calling the shots on this one. 2015 brings a new head coach in John Fox and a new general manager in Ryan Pace. This leadership tandem is a fusion of new and old school.
“When you talk about Fox going forward, you’ve got to get that defense turned around, and he’s been the turnaround artist,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said. “He’s turned around a team in Carolina, in Denver, and they’re counting on him doing the same in Chicago.”
Schefter, who was voted USA Today’s “best NFL insider” three years in a row, said his sources rave about Pace.
“They think [Pace] is a tremendous evaluator,” he said. “They think he’s been waiting and primed for this opportunity, and they believe he’s going to be a star in this role.”
In the end the Pace will probably be set on either Shelton or Fowler.
